Hello everybody, SlimKirby here, and welcome to another edition of Question Corner!
Like I said during the last Question Corner, there was a bit of a backlog I was working with, so I am not surprised at all that this issue came out as soon as it did. I don’t expect the next one to be as immediate though. With that being said, if you want to submit a question of your own, please go to the Contact page and send one.
As usual though, make sure your question is appropriate before you send it. Leave all personal and private matters out of the equation. Also, try to avoid very basic “yes” or “no” questions and questions that have a very narrow topic; like questions that ask if I’ve played a certain game series and what my opinion on that game series is (especially if it requires me to play that series, because chances are that I have not played it yet and cannot give an opinion on it. Let’s get started though.
Q: “What would your reaction be if Nintendo went out of business or got bought out by Apple?”
A: Honestly, I would be sad if Nintendo went out of business. I’ve grown up with Nintendo my entire life and it would absolute devastate me to hear that there would be no more Nintendo games. I mean, even I agree that Nintendo hasn’t been making great decisions lately, but I still enjoy their games regardless. So yeah, it would devastate me. Also, I am ignoring the secondary “Apple” question because…reasons. I just really don’t want to think about that possibility.
Q: “On a scale of 1-10, how cute are lumas?”
A: They are an out-of-this-galaxy, ’11!’ So freaking cute!
Q: “What’s your current opinion of Shigeru Miyamoto?”
A: I think he is a straight-up, honest and lovable guy. Do I think he is as great as he once was in the video game world? Probably not, but I give credit where it’s due and he’s been a part of some of the greatest video games of all time and I can’t ignore that. I think it would be cool to meet him and shake his hand someday, but we’ll see.
Q: “Have you thought about doing a personal documentary for your 10th year anniversary?”
A: That sounds more like a project for when I ever decide to throw in the towel, which won’t be anytime soon.
Q: “In what room do you film your 1-up Box videos?”
A: I normally film them in my office. The room I used in my May video (and one other video) was my bedroom, and the one I used in my July video was the living room.
Q: “What are your favourite levels on both Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie?”
A: In Banjo-Kazooie, my favorite level is probably Freezeezy Peak. In Banjo-Tooie it is definitely Witchyworld. I will give shout-outs to Gobi’s Valley and Grunty Industries for being solid runner-ups though.
Q: “Do you like cats?”
A: Cats are fine. I do like how they aren’t as chaotic as dogs in terms of energy, but I am probably still more of a dog person. At the end of the day though, I probably wouldn’t own either unless it was an absolute requirement of my future spouse, whenever that becomes relevant.
Q: “Do you remember the Fruit Vendor on Seinfield?”
A: Yes…why is this a question?
Q: “Do you see any value on tackling the Super Mario Advance GBA remakes on your channel?”
A: It’s really hard to say just because while there is some unique content for each game…they are still pretty much the same games at the end of the day. Super Mario Advance 1 is probably the most unique of the series, but even I’m not crazy about doing it. I’ve already done the secret levels of SMA3 on my channel as SMW2:YI extra videos. Super Mario Advance 4 has the E-Reader levels (but that’s it). And Super Mario Advance 2, while I think it does have the least amount of changes…it is a port of my all-time favorite game with a mediocre sound chip. So honestly, I have no idea how I want to handle these games, IF I ever even want to do these games.
Q: “What things scare you?”
A: I don’t have any big fears. There are things that can freak me out, but never to extent where I can’t function. Insect infestations, heights, being trapped in a small, secluded space, being alone for a long period of time, dangerous animals…again, all things that are perfectly harmless until the point where I’m actually having to deal with them, which in most cases won’t even happen.
Q: “If you could choose the gender of your child, what would you want first?”
A: Honestly, I would want a boy first just so I could continue the family name. Otherwise, it wouldn’t matter too much and I wouldn’t be disappointed if I ended up only getting girls as my children.
Q: “What is your favourite thing and least favourite thing about making Let’s Plays?”
A: Quite simply, my favorite part of making Let’s Plays is just being able to play the games that I love all over again! As for the things I dislike…the inevitable rough recording sessions where everything goes wrong and makes me feel “meh” about what I’m playing at that moment.
Q: “Should Mario Kart have a drag-racing mode? And as a follow-up, should Mario Kart have racing venues from the real world, like Daytona and Indianapolis?”
A: No. I just don’t find drag racing very interesting. As for the real world racing venues, I feel like the realism would take away from the cartoony and fun fantasy world of the Mario series, so double negative for this question.
Q: “What conventions do you see yourself attending in the future?”
A: As far as 2016 is considered, I’m done with conventions. I’ve already spent all of my available funds for trips this year and need to start saving for next year. As far as next year is concerned, Magfest will be top priority. I am also interested in attending Con Bravo to see some of my Canadian friends, but there is no guarantee yet. Momocon might also be a possibility yet again as well.
Q: “Do you think they should have made a Pokemon Snap 2?”
A: Honestly, I think it’s something that could have been done for sure. Heck, even the Wii U Gamepad software would have been perfect for that. Not to mention that there are over 700 Pokemon and the first Pokemon Snap only had 63. So yeah, I think there would have been plenty of potential for it.
Q: “Do you enjoy taking photos in real life of anything and everything?”
A: I’m not really a big camera or photo guy. If I see something interesting or funny, I’ll usually take a picture of it with my phone or something, but that’s really about it.
Q: “Who is your favorite sage in Ocarina of Time?”
A: Honestly, I like all the sages with exception to Rauru and Nabooru. Rauru just seems so boring and unlikable and Nabooru was basically just, “We need someone to be a sage for the desert area, so let’s just make it this character we just met.” If I had to pick one I really liked though, I guess I would have to go with Darunia. I just like his attitude when you meet him in the Fire Temple, where it’s like you both are working together to stop Volvagia and save the gorons.
Q: “Have you ever watched an LP of yours and thought, ‘Do I really sound like that?’”
A: All the time. In fact, I think that’s a common feeling anybody has to watching their own work. I think it’s because you spend your entire life with your voice, so when you hear it back, you are completely underwhelmed because there is no mystery to it. It’s just like… ”well, this is just me,” opposed to watching a video by someone else, hearing their voice for the first time and just having that initial reaction of taking it all in.
Q: “How is everything in Indiana?”
A: Uh, it’s fine, I guess? The weather is starting to get cooler, which is good because I hate hot and dry summers. We’re losing our terrible, terrible governor that has ruined our state for too many years, which is always a good thing. In general, I don’t mind living in Indiana, but there are times where I yearn to live somewhere different.
Q: “Would you want to see more of the United Kingdom?”
A: This question is in reference to me talking about Brighton in one of my Super Mario Galaxy videos. Basically, I went to the UK during my senior year of high school for a class trip. We spent about one week in England (and a miserable day in France (it was only miserable because it was a very gloomy day and we literally only got to see like…2 hours of Paris)). We saw a lot of stuff and went to a lot of places during that week (most of which I can’t really remember), but some of the highlights were Brighton, Stonehenge, Shakespeare’s birthplace at Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford, and various places across London. It was a really cool trip, I got to go with a lot of my friends, and overall was just a really good time. Would I ever want to go back and see more of the UK? I would definitely not be against it, but I wouldn’t be disappointed if I never got the chance to go back either.
Well guys, thanks for joining me for another Question Corner! I will see you guys next time when I get enough questions!
