Nintendo has always had the Mario series, but alongside the Platforming King came a number of other heroes who have had their own time in the platforming spotlight. Sony and the Playstation definitely started out with Crash Bandicoot, but when the Playstation 2 came a plethora of other heroes to play; from Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, and another incredibly epic duo in the form of Ratchet and Clank. One is a lombax, the last remaining creature of his species who happens to be a really handy mechanic, while the other is a tiny robot who has come to the solar system with a message and a mission; to stop the evil Chairman Drek from causing harm to the galaxy. These two will now team up and try to stop Drek once and for all.

I first discovered this game through my friends at CrystalStarStudio when we decided to pick this game for one of our upcoming projects. I immediately fell in love with the game because I am so incredibly fond of platformers, especially platformers that have great characters, a great sense of humor, and of course, great and fun gameplay. Although the Ratchet games focus more on action and blowing stuff up with a variety of weapons and other tools, I’d say the platforming is still very much relevant, and was a very easy sell to me with all of that taken into consideration. Anyway, I knew I couldn’t just stick with Nintendo for the rest of my time on Youtube, so I decided to do some branching out this year to the Sony front. Because I haven’t gotten familiar enough with Jak and Daxter or Sly Cooper yet, and there is one small thing holding me back from Crash Bandicoot, it was only natural to pick Ratchet for my next non-Nintendo romp.

Dynasty Warriors 2

Dynasty Warriors 2

Ancient China; a land at constant war and strife as various dynasties and ruling families try to take the land for themselves and their own desires. Each empire with their own unique strengths and powerful warriors at their disposal. This series puts you in control of these warriors as you fight for superiority on the battlefield; pitting yourself against hundreds and hundreds of warriors. It may seem impossible, but welcome to the hack and slash genre, where all you need is just one powerful fighter, and then you can watch the KO count rise.

So I’ve been mentioning that I’m a huge fan of the Dynasty Warriors series for years now, but I’ve never actually LPed any of the games. Normally my answer for that is because as much as I would love to do the series, the amount of content I would like to cover is just beyond what I would normally expect to be watchable as a Let’s Play project. With that being said though, Dynasty Warriors 2 is probably a good start just because of how barebones, repetitious and unrewarding it is. Because of that, it will make future grinding redundant and unnecessary, meaning I can do a simple level run through and leave it at that. But once this project is done, I’ll need to figure out what I’m going to do about Dynasty Warriors 3, because THAT will be quite the grind…

Double Dragon (NES)

Double Dragon (NES)

Game: Double Dragon (NES)
Start Date: August 7th, 2016
End Date: August 8th, 2016

Like them or not, beat-em-ups were definitely some of the most popular video games back in the olden days. Just the thought of starting from a very basic level with weaklings and making your way up the ladder of strength to fighting harder enemies and bosses just seemed like a natural progression in the video game world. In this game, Billy Lee is off to beat the crap out of any foe that gets in his way to rescue his girlfriend Marion from the Black Warriors gang.

I first played this game a few years ago when FiyahKitteh, her friend and I decided to do a series of video game challenge videos on our Youtube channels. I actually had fun during that challenge, so I figured that since I was doing an NES Marathon, it would be a good choice of game to do, since I even remarked during that challenge that I could see myself doing a Let’s Play of the game at a future date and time. So for this marathon, I made it a reality.

Mega Man 7

Mega Man 7

Game: Mega Man 7
Start Date: May 24th, 2016

When people think of Mega Man on the SNES, they think of the beginning of the Mega Man X series. However, the original series did have one game on the system too in the form of Mega Man 7. Dr. Wily finds a way to escape prison again and has started causing trouble all over the city. On top of that, a strange robot named Bass is also causing trouble. Time for Mega Man to get into action!

Not much to say here; I wanted to do a small project before Super Mario Galaxy started and I felt like Mega Man was the way to go, especially since my usual choice, Sonic, was already used the previous month. Kinda cool though that I’m almost done with the classic series. Although, that also means I may have to look into some other games of the series as well.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

Game: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Start Date: November 28th, 2011
Runtime: 14 hours

It’s another normal day in the Mushroom Kingdom when Bowser decides to once again try his luck at capturing the princess. Although his attempt is once again a failure, Mario’s rescue of the princess gets interrupted by a new enemy, one who plans to destroy this world and replace it with a world filled with weapons! Mario will have to go to some new places and meet some new faces in his first full-fledged RPG title.

This was the eighth “replay” project I did on my channel, as I had done some videos for the game at a prior date, but due to the poorer quality of the project, I decided to redo the project with a modern spin. The videos for the old project are still available for viewing on my channel, but there is no longer a playlist associated with that version.

Although my replay projects were generally met with positive feedback, this was the first one where I felt I had more mixed results, mostly due to how overplayed this game is. Despite this fact, this is one of my all-time favorite SNES games and my attitude towards the original project was too low for my personal standards, which gave me enough of a reason to redo the project. At the end of the day, I was satisfied with the redo, and I think that is all that matters in the long run, and I hope you guys enjoy the videos as well!
