Mario Kart 8 (Deluxe)

It’s time to drive-in to the most recent installment of Mario Kart; Mario Kart 8 on the Nintendo Wii U & Nintendo Switch. In addition to various mechanics throughout other games, Mario Kart 8 brings us anti-gravity fun along with some brand new characters (some of which who have not appeared in a Mario game), some sweet new tracks, a brand new engine class, and several other interesting features. I will be playing the Switch version for this playthrough (Mario Kart 8: Deluxe), but may have an extra video in relation to the Wii U version.

Mario Kart 8 has a lot of meaning to me. At this point, it is probably my most favorite Mario Kart game, and the Mario Kart game I would recommend most to people, just because of how easily accessible the game is and because the game is still very relevant with a very active online community. This game is also what introduced me to a lot of my friends in the Puddle Plains HD community, so it’s very special to me for that reason as well. I look forward to, in the future, having pretty regular sessions of this game via the game’s “Tournament” mode, so this project could be expecting quite a bit of content…at least until the next Mario Kart game comes out, whenever that might be.

Sonic Adventure 2

Sonic Adventure 2

Game: Sonic Adventure 2
Start Date: April 9th, 2019
End Date: —

After the events of Sonic Adventure 1, Dr. Eggman is up to his classic, villainous plots again, but this time he has snuck into a military base and released a black hedgehog from captivity; Shadow. With Shadow on his side, Eggman has a super fast hedgehog of his own and now has a plan that will wreck the entire planet if Sonic doesn’t stop him. However…we now get a choice of which side we want to work on. Will we join Sonic to save the world? Or will we join the Eggman Empire and try to conquer it?

I wanted to get Sonic Adventure 2 started last year, but I just didn’t have enough time to get it going, so I waited until the beginning of 2019 instead. This game is perhaps one of my favorite games of all time, just because the sheer amount of time I’ve put into it and number of times I’ve gotten all 180 emblems. So now, it is my pleasure to bring to you guys as a Let’s Play.

Like Sonic Adventure 1, my ultimate plan for this game is to play through the game normally for Youtube, and then after I’ve finished it, I will do all the emblem grinding and acquiring on my Twitch channel, after which I will upload pieces of that footage to Youtube as well. This will be a long playthrough because of that, but I’m looking forward to it!

Lemmings

Lemmings

The early 90’s had a lot of simple games with very basic objectives. Perhaps the most common objective was “get to end without being destroyed.” This objective has become a way of gaming life in a lot of respects, but one question still remains that a lot of old-school PC gamers had the joy of answering…can you save a group of non-stop walking creatures before they plummet off a cliff? That’s where Lemmings comes in.

Lemmings is a game I had the pleasure of playing with my dad a lot when I was younger. We would spend hours in front of his computer trying to figure out how to get all of our Lemmings to safety before they went off the ledge, got burned alive by lava, and various other devious traps and tricks that got in our way. I had a feeling it was time to bring my love of this classic puzzle game to light this year, so here we are with another special weekend project for me.

I am also covering the SNES version of the game, which has a slightly different-looking interface than other versions, and some other modifications made specifically for the SNES version.

Mega Man 10

Mega Man 10

Danger! Danger! A worldwide epidemic is going around in the form of Roboenza; a sickness that is affecting robots. And now, with robot-kind out of commission, our way of life is in danger. Dr. Light and Dr. Wily have now teamed up to find a way to end this virus and it looks like Mega Man is ready once again to take the stage and find a way to fix this as well. However, we have eight more robot masters trying to take us down and another evil that will show it’s face later on…please don’t be Dr. Wily. Please!

I decided to attack Mega Man 10 a bit early this year, just on the off chance that we wouldn’t be side-winded (in a good way of course) with another new Mega Man game. However, this is the last Mega Man game (at least for now) that used this classic 8-bit style, so it’s definitely still the end of an era, somewhat.

Super Mario 3D Land

Super Mario 3D Land

I would put up a clever description of how Bowser once again kidnaps Princess Peach, forcing Mario into another grand adventure, but I feel like the guy is running a little empty on unique ways to accomplish that feat, so I’ll just chalk it up to Bowser getting bored and that he just wanted to do something to keep himself busy. That’s right, we have another Mario game to cover and this time we are covering the 3DS classic; Super Mario 3D Land. After spending a couple of titles in the 2D platformer space, Nintendo decided it was time to try another 3D adventure with less emphasis on exploring locales or traveling through space, and more emphasis on straight-up platforming. In addition to that, this title also seems to draw a lot of inspiration from other games from Mario’s past as well, whether it’s power-ups, gimmicks, music, secrets; just a nice celebration of Mario’s past.

My initial plan was to cover Super Mario 3D Land the previous year, but due to Fire Emblem and the Oracle games taking up a huge amount of that time, I had to delay my plans a few months, but decided I wanted to get through this game as soon as possible the following year just so I could continue my streak of covering a 3D Mario “almost” every year, or at least regularly enough. This was a game I knew I could get through easily enough and finish in a quick amount of time, so even with my reduced upload schedule in 2019, I knew it would be a quick one to slip in there.

SSR #24: “One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish”

Introduction:
The Simpsons have been on the air for 30 years now, but have we considered the possibility of a main character of the Simpson family dying? Sure, the show has dealt with character death before, and some characters have been flat out retired, but what if a character of Homer’s status were to pass on? How would the world be different? How would his family react? How would he handle his last moments? Well, interestingly enough, Season 2 just so happened to have an entire episode dealing with that, and today, we are going to be taking a look at that episode.

SSR #21: “Bart the Daredevil”

Introduction:
Bart Simpson has done a lot of crazy things, but now he is going to stare danger right in the face with the next episode of Season 2, “Bart the Daredevil.” This is a pretty iconic episode of Season 2 and the series in general, mainly due to the final setting of the episode and certain gag that gets shown and referenced a number of times throughout the entire show’s duration. But how does this episode stand the test of time in general? Today we are going to find out!

SSR #20: “Bart vs. Thanksgiving”

Introduction:
We had a Christmas special in Season 1 and a Halloween special in Season 2, so it’s not surprising that the Simpson family is going to tackle another one of the classic American holidays in the form of Thanksgiving. An interesting thing to note is that they have not touched the Thanksgiving holiday very much, if at all, since this episode (at least not to my immediate recollection anyway). I suppose Christmas is easier to make a story with and Halloween is such an annual tradition and fun story creation for the writing team, so it makes some sense in the long run that not many extra stories have come out of this holiday. With all that being said though, let’s get this thing started and take a look at “Bart vs. Thanksgiving.”

SSR #19: “Dead Putting Society”

Introduction:
There is one rivalry in the Simpsons world that we haven’t exactly explored quite yet, and it may seem a bit surprising that we haven’t after eighteen episodes. We’ve seen these two interact before, but now we are going to get an actual episode about their conflict. Ladies and gentlemen, it is time for a battle between the Simpson family and the Flanders family; in perhaps one of my all-time favorite Season 2 episodes, Dead Putting Society.

SSR #18: “Dancin’ Homer”

Introduction:
Homer has had a lot of jobs over the years, many of which have nothing to do with the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. In today’s episode, we are going to take a look at the first time Homer got to spread his wings outside of the plant gates and do something he actually enjoyed. I don’t think he got any actual money for this particular gig, but he did seem to have a lot of fun with it and he seemed to be very good at it as well. Today we are going to go down to the old baseball field and take a look at “Dancin’ Homer.”
