NES Remix 2

NES Remix 2

There’s not much to say when sequels of games like these come out. Developers liked the formula they came up with, so they decide to make a sequel with some more content and new idea (although, more towards the former in this case). Nintendo has some more NES games to make challenges with and we are going to see what the 2nd collection of this is going to bring out!

I wasn’t quite ready for more Mario Kart or Wario Ware, or god forbid, another Mario Party game, so a return to NES Remix seemed to be on the table this time! We got some great games in this collection and I’m not just saying that because Kirby’s Adventure is a main feature. We also have my favorite NES game of all-time, Super Mario Bros. 3! We have my favorite block-dropping puzzle game of all time, Dr. Mario. And we also have…Wario’s Woods? Interesting…

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

When a video game gets very successful, it’s only natural for developers to want to create a sequel. It’s also natural for developers to try out new ideas when they make their sequels, including the notion of drastically changing the gameplay and the style of the game in question. The Legend of Zelda is an example of this when they made Zelda II for the NES. Although it had a nice overworld map, puzzle-filled dungeons and various caves to explore throughout the land of Hyrule, Zelda II controlled very differently from its predecessor. In fact, I imagine present-day Zelda fans who didn’t grow up with this title would not be overly fond of this game because of how different and how difficult it is compared to the other games of the franchise. However, it’s still a part of the Zelda lore and is definitely worth a look at.

Before moving on to other Zelda titles, I wanted to get completely caught up with the series (at least up to Majora’s Mask anyway) and fill in any gaps I left hanging beforehand. However, Zelda II wasn’t a game I was overly familiar with. In fact, before this playthrough, I had only completed the game once beforehand and that was a few weeks before the end of 2017. So safe to say, I was going into this title with only a little practice and not a great deal of experience. However, from when I played the game, there were definitely some things I appreciated and liked about the experience, so at the very least, you could say I wasn’t repulsed by the game to the point where I just didn’t want to cover it at all. So I figured it was as good of a time as any to finally mark this off of my Let’s Play list, and here we are!

Kid Icarus

When Pit was added to the Super Smash Bros. roster in Brawl, many people became interested in the little guy’s backstory, which dates all the way back to this game, Kid Icarus. The Goddess Palutena has been captured by Medusa and it’s up to Pit to rescue her from all the evil forces.

I was never really fond of Kid Icarus at first, but when I finally got around to beating it recently, I was intrigued by the type of game it was. I don’t particularly like the difficulty curve used (hard at beginning, easy at end), but I do love some of the mechanics.

Kirby’s Adventure

Kirby's Adventure

Game: Kirby’s Adventure

End Date: August 25th, 2016

Kirby is a very unique case for this marathon, as Kirby’s Adventure didn’t exactly launch his series of games, but it did debut one of Kirby’s most prominent and utilized features; the copy ability. King Dedede is up to some shady things at the Dream Fountain, so it’s up to Kirby to see what the heck is going on in Dream Land.

One question I had been getting for the longest time was “When are you going to do Kirby’s Adventure/Nightmare in Dreamland?” And honestly, I had been trying to fit it into my schedule at some point, but the timing just never felt right. However, when thoughts of the NES Marathon started entering my head, I knew Kirby’s Adventure had to be covered.

NOTE: If I do cover Nightmare in Dreamland at some point, it will be the MetaKnightmare mode and that’s probably it, considering it’s the same exact game as Kirby’s Adventure with updated graphics.

Bomberman

Good ol’ Bomberman has also had his beginnings on the NES console, although his beginnings are a little….more basic and barebones. Regardless, it’s interesting (at least for me) to go back and see what this guy was made of at the very beginning. In this game, robots have been enslaved by the forces of evil to make bombs in their underground tunnels, and there is a rumor that the one who makes it to the surface can become a human and stop living in a world of nonstop bomb manufacturing.

After streaming this game awhile back, I wanted to give this game another go on Youtube and actually complete it for a Youtube project. I had the entire Super Bomberman series completed on my Youtube channel, but there technically were some Bomberman games before that too, so why not get those taken care of?

Mega Man 6

Mega Man 6

The mysterious Mr. X is upon us and he is holding a worldwide robot competition featuring eight of the world’s most dangerous robots, and Mega Man is getting in-the-ring tickets for the event. Looks like this is just another day in the life for Mega Man.

To close out the year 2014, I wanted to start Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the next Mario Kart project, and if at all possible, finish up the NES Mega Man series with the only installment I hadn’t done. With half of the last month remaining, there was just enough time to accomplish this feat as I started Mega Man 6 and pretty much finished it the following week.

Dr. Light has been kidnapped, but the lead suspect is none other than….Proto Man? How can Mega Man’s brother be responsible for this new fiendish plot?

This was the final project of the Mega Man marathon before I returned to the projects I was working on beforehand. I decided to take on MM6 at a later date. As glad as I was that the hiatus was over, I had a lot of fun with this mini marathon.

I don’t have a lot to say here that wasn’t already said in the first three Mega Man projects. My computer still wasn’t ready and I needed to keep going with the marathon to provide content for you guys.

After the events of Mega Man 1, Dr. Wily is back to his old tricks again and Mega Man will have to defeat his army of new robot masters and other robotic beings as he tries to save the world once again.

I pretty much intended to do a Mega Man marathon until my computer issues were fixed, which lasted a lot longer than intended. I knew I would be, at the very least, doing the first three games. In this LP though, I did face an issue of music copyright, an issue that forced me to lower the volume tremendously for the Mega Man projects from this one til the end of the series.
