Spanky’s Quest

Spanky's Quest

Game: Spanky’s Quest
Start Date: September 6th, 2016
End Date: September 15th, 2016

Growing up with the SNES meant that I was often in a “renting games” phase with that system, and I have definitely rented some really cool and interesting games through this method. I feel like with renting, you are more inclined to check out a game that you probably wouldn’t just purchase if you saw it at a store, and Spanky’s Quest was definitely a game like that for me. In this game, a monkey named Spanky is trapped in an evil witch’s dungeon of….dangerous fruit enemies…and Spanky has to bounce his way out of dodge and defeat the witch once and for all.

As I said, this was a game I rented a lot as a kid, but I was never able to find the game in stores. Then, after going to a Game Xchange store near where I live, I saw this game in the display case for a mere 10 dollars. Feeling nostalgic, I picked up the game and I’m very glad I did! Because this was going to make for an interesting mini-project to go alongside Ocarina of Time!

Donkey Kong 64

Donkey Kong 64

Game: Donkey Kong 64
Start Date: September 13th, 2010
Runtime: 14 hours

Nearing the end of the N64’s life-span, Rareware was often asked when Donkey Kong Country was going to make its glorious reappearance. Although the series never made a true comeback until the Nintendo Wii, this was Rare’s answer for the Nintendo 64. King K. Rool is back and once to make another run at DK’s Banana Hoard, also capturing some of his friends as well. This does not please the big ape, as he ventures forth to rescue his friends and reclaim his stash!

This was the sixth “replay” project I did on my channel, as I had done some videos for the game at a prior date, but due to the bad (camcorder) quality of the project, I decided to redo the project with a modern spin. The videos for the old project are still available for viewing on my channel, but there is no longer a playlist associated with that version.

Donkey Kong 64 was the first “true” Let’s Play I did on my channel, but the 2010 version of me wasn’t completely satisfied with the results of that project, so I decided to go for a reboot of the game and do it more justice. I feel like my attempts were more than just satisfactory, as my replay of the game turned out to be one of my biggest and best projects yet, alongside The Simpsons: Hit and Run.
