The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages

It’s time to enter the world of Zelda yet again, but this time with a two-for-one special! After the success of both Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, Nintendo knew the Zelda train should continue on the Game Boy Color, and with the additional success of Pokemon and their strategy of creating multiple versions of essentially the same gameplay concept, the Oracle games were born!

I’ve been wanting to do Wind Waker for awhile now, but before I officially go on to tackle that beast, I wanted to get the Oracle games out of the way first, just so I can continue the Zelda series in the order of game release. I don’t have the most experience with playing the Oracle games, but I do enjoy the gameplay system set up by Link’s Awakening and thought it would be a good series of games to do in the chill-down period of 2018. I finished Oracle of Seasons a few days prior to the beginning of this LP, and continued straight after with this game, Oracle of Ages, using a Linked Game playthrough!

When a video game gets very successful, it’s only natural for developers to want to create a sequel. It’s also natural for developers to try out new ideas when they make their sequels, including the notion of drastically changing the gameplay and the style of the game in question. The Legend of Zelda is an example of this when they made Zelda II for the NES. Although it had a nice overworld map, puzzle-filled dungeons and various caves to explore throughout the land of Hyrule, Zelda II controlled very differently from its predecessor. In fact, I imagine present-day Zelda fans who didn’t grow up with this title would not be overly fond of this game because of how different and how difficult it is compared to the other games of the franchise. However, it’s still a part of the Zelda lore and is definitely worth a look at.

Before moving on to other Zelda titles, I wanted to get completely caught up with the series (at least up to Majora’s Mask anyway) and fill in any gaps I left hanging beforehand. However, Zelda II wasn’t a game I was overly familiar with. In fact, before this playthrough, I had only completed the game once beforehand and that was a few weeks before the end of 2017. So safe to say, I was going into this title with only a little practice and not a great deal of experience. However, from when I played the game, there were definitely some things I appreciated and liked about the experience, so at the very least, you could say I wasn’t repulsed by the game to the point where I just didn’t want to cover it at all. So I figured it was as good of a time as any to finally mark this off of my Let’s Play list, and here we are!

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

A dark cloud of evil has been cast over Hyrule. An evil man from the desert has come driven by his own desires to fill this world with darkness. The only way to stop him? A lone kid from the Kokiri Forest who just so happens to not have a fairy to guide him. That’s all about to change in this epic and timeless tale to save Hyrule from the brink of destruction and darkness.

Ocarina of Time has been a long-time coming on the channel, but before diving into the game, there were definitely some titles I wanted to get through first. However, with all of that taken care of now, it’s time to get things moving on a game that almost everyone has very fond memories of.

NOTE: This project also includes a follow-up to Ocarina of Time in the form of Master Quest. I play through the dungeons of this slightly-updated version on the 3DS remastering of this particular game; The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.

The Legend of Zelda

All great legends start somewhere. This legendary series started on the NES back in 1986 and 1987. Link sets forth to collect the 8 triforce shards and stop the evil Ganon from destroying Hyrule.

The NES Marathon has started and the first game I chose was The Legend of Zelda. It’s a game I’m….not really that familiar with, much like all of the games on this NES console. However, it is a very important game to the series because this jump started a beloved series. I knew I had to cover this at some point, so let this be the first game of the marathon!

I will also be doing a playthrough of Second Quest on my stream channel that will get uploaded to this playlist at some point.

Super Smash Bros.

Super Smash Bros.

Game: Super Smash Bros.
Start Date: May 24th, 2014
Runtime: 4 hours

Back in the old days, one of gamers’ greatest fantasies was the thought of combining all of Nintendo’s mascot characters and putting them into a game where they could just go wild and fight each other. It was Super Smash Bros., a game developed by Masahiro Sakurai, the developer of Kirby, that finally accomplished this feat and had a tremendous legacy that developed alongside it.

I still had not figured out how to tackle Mario Party DS yet and I was definitely not ready for Mario Kart: Super Circuit either, so I decided to focus on another spin-off game instead. With all the hype surrounding the upcoming Super Smash Bros. 4, it seemed like the best time to go back to the Smash Bros. roots and start celebrating the hype in a proper way! I also decided to incorporate “#SmashHype” as a way for my viewers to contribute to the hype of the new games and promote even more discussion.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

With the King of Hyrule in a vegetative state and several female descendants of the seven wisemen gone missing, all eyes turn to the evil wizard Agahnim. Princess Zelda feels that she is next in line for the wizard’s nasty plot and reaches out for a hero to save her. That hero just happens to be Link, and before he knows it, he starts out on his quest to save Hyrule!

I had not done a lot of Zelda on my channel, but I assure you that I am a huge Zelda fan, just as much as the other Nintendo series. I guess I just prefer Mario and Kirby to a much larger extent, but that is just my own, honest opinion. We all started somewhere though with the Zelda series, and this game was the game I started with! I hope you guys enjoy my romp through this classic SNES title.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Game: The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
Start Date: June 6th, 2010
Runtime: 15 hours

After the conflict of Hyrule covered in Ocarina of Time, Link goes on a quest to find a lost friend. What does he find instead? A cursed mask, a parallel world of Hyrule, and a whole new quest that will take him to places that he never thought possible. Want to know the twist? He only has three days to accomplish this feat!

I wanted to do another long project, but more along the lines of Hit and Run and not Advance Wars. I decided to go with one of my all-time favorite Nintendo 64 titles, and a game I personally preferred over the beast that is known as Ocarina of TIme. Majora’s Mask is an extremely immsersive gaming experience, and although it has more sidequests than you can even shake a stick at, it was an experience that I wanted to share with you guys, even despite its length. I showed off this game and its entireity, getting all the items, masks, upgrades, and heart pieces, and even showed off some secrets.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

During a trip at sea, the hero of Hyrule sails into a vicious lightning storm that destroys his boat and forces him to land on the mysterious island of Koholint. Although this island is a haven of interesting people and critters, this place holds a dark secret that may question even your own existence!

This game has always been one of my favorite Zelda titles and I wanted it to be my first Zelda playthrough because it wasn’t as big as the other Zelda games, and it was a game I remember very well from my youth! Although there is very little I remember about doing this playthrough, this game definitely deserves a glance or two, and I hope you enjoy my rendition of “The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX”
