It’s time to drive-in to the most recent installment of Mario Kart; Mario Kart 8 on the Nintendo Wii U & Nintendo Switch. In addition to various mechanics throughout other games, Mario Kart 8 brings us anti-gravity fun along with some brand new characters (some of which who have not appeared in a Mario game), some sweet new tracks, a brand new engine class, and several other interesting features. I will be playing the Switch version for this playthrough (Mario Kart 8: Deluxe), but may have an extra video in relation to the Wii U version.

Mario Kart 8 has a lot of meaning to me. At this point, it is probably my most favorite Mario Kart game, and the Mario Kart game I would recommend most to people, just because of how easily accessible the game is and because the game is still very relevant with a very active online community. This game is also what introduced me to a lot of my friends in the Puddle Plains HD community, so it’s very special to me for that reason as well. I look forward to, in the future, having pretty regular sessions of this game via the game’s “Tournament” mode, so this project could be expecting quite a bit of content…at least until the next Mario Kart game comes out, whenever that might be.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

It’s time to set sail for the next Zelda game; this one on the Nintendo Gamecube! Although it was quite a graphical departure from what a lot of people were expecting, many Zelda fans opened their hearts to this colorful and cute installment of the Zelda series. A great evil is brewing across the Great Sea and a lone boy on the island of Outset is gearing up to take it on. Is this boy the legendary hero? We’ll have to wait and see.

Although I was technically hoping to get Zelda 1’s second quest taken care of before this game, I knew for sure that this summer was going to be the time to finally take on Wind Waker, so I decided to move it a little ahead in the schedule. There’s not much to say about this game aside from the fact that it’s amazing! The world is amazing, the sailing is amazing, the combat system is amazing…this game is quite the legendary adventure, I must say, and I look forward to showing you guys every moment!

Sonic Adventure 2

Sonic Adventure 2

After the events of Sonic Adventure 1, Dr. Eggman is up to his classic, villainous plots again, but this time he has snuck into a military base and released a black hedgehog from captivity; Shadow. With Shadow on his side, Eggman has a super fast hedgehog of his own and now has a plan that will wreck the entire planet if Sonic doesn’t stop him. However…we now get a choice of which side we want to work on. Will we join Sonic to save the world? Or will we join the Eggman Empire and try to conquer it?

I wanted to get Sonic Adventure 2 started last year, but I just didn’t have enough time to get it going, so I waited until the beginning of 2019 instead. This game is perhaps one of my favorite games of all time, just because the sheer amount of time I’ve put into it and number of times I’ve gotten all 180 emblems. So now, it is my pleasure to bring to you guys as a Let’s Play.

Like Sonic Adventure 1, my ultimate plan for this game is to play through the game normally for Youtube, and then after I’ve finished it, I will do all the emblem grinding and acquiring on my Twitch channel, after which I will upload pieces of that footage to Youtube as well. This will be a long playthrough because of that, but I’m looking forward to it!

Lemmings

The early 90’s had a lot of simple games with very basic objectives. Perhaps the most common objective was “get to end without being destroyed.” This objective has become a way of gaming life in a lot of respects, but one question still remains that a lot of old-school PC gamers had the joy of answering…can you save a group of non-stop walking creatures before they plummet off a cliff? That’s where Lemmings comes in.

Lemmings is a game I had the pleasure of playing with my dad a lot when I was younger. We would spend hours in front of his computer trying to figure out how to get all of our Lemmings to safety before they went off the ledge, got burned alive by lava, and various other devious traps and tricks that got in our way. I had a feeling it was time to bring my love of this classic puzzle game to light this year, so here we are with another special weekend project for me.

I am also covering the SNES version of the game, which has a slightly different-looking interface than other versions, and some other modifications made specifically for the SNES version.

Super Mario 3D Land

Super Mario 3D Land

I would put up a clever description of how Bowser once again kidnaps Princess Peach, forcing Mario into another grand adventure, but I feel like the guy is running a little empty on unique ways to accomplish that feat, so I’ll just chalk it up to Bowser getting bored and that he just wanted to do something to keep himself busy. That’s right, we have another Mario game to cover and this time we are covering the 3DS classic; Super Mario 3D Land. After spending a couple of titles in the 2D platformer space, Nintendo decided it was time to try another 3D adventure with less emphasis on exploring locales or traveling through space, and more emphasis on straight-up platforming. In addition to that, this title also seems to draw a lot of inspiration from other games from Mario’s past as well, whether it’s power-ups, gimmicks, music, secrets; just a nice celebration of Mario’s past.

My initial plan was to cover Super Mario 3D Land the previous year, but due to Fire Emblem and the Oracle games taking up a huge amount of that time, I had to delay my plans a few months, but decided I wanted to get through this game as soon as possible the following year just so I could continue my streak of covering a 3D Mario “almost” every year, or at least regularly enough. This was a game I knew I could get through easily enough and finish in a quick amount of time, so even with my reduced upload schedule in 2019, I knew it would be a quick one to slip in there.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

It’s time to enter the world of Zelda yet again, but this time with a two-for-one special! After the success of both Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, Nintendo knew the Zelda train should continue on the Game Boy Color, and with the additional success of Pokemon and their strategy of creating multiple versions of essentially the same gameplay concept, the Oracle games were born! This is the first of the Oracle games I will be covering; Oracle of Seasons!

I’ve been wanting to do Wind Waker for awhile now, but before I officially go on to tackle that beast, I wanted to get the Oracle games out of the way first, just so I can continue the Zelda series in the order of game release. I don’t have the most experience with playing the Oracle games, but I do enjoy the gameplay system set up by Link’s Awakening and thought it would be a good series of games to do in the chill-down period of 2018. I will be covering Seasons first and then Ages following it.

Mega Man 9

After Mega Man 8, Capcom spent some time away from the Blue Bomber to work on the X-series and other games that they were currently trying to promote. Convinced he was forgotten about, the world was surprised to find that in 2008, Mega Man would be returning to form and out of what felt like a retirement, and thus Mega Man 9 was born! What’s Dr. Wily up to this time?

Mega Man 9 was a game I was not completely sure how I would be able to play until Capcom revealed a very convenient collection that was coming out to current-gen consoles; including the Nintendo Switch, a system I was very glad I owned at the time of that particular announcement. Because of this collection, I was finally able to get my hands on both Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 without any worry of having to buy DLC and having a single, convenient place to play all of the classic Mega Man games.

It’s time for the next generation of Mario Kart, and this generation has handgliders and undersea driving…how adventurous! This installment of the game was released on the 3DS and became, easily, one of the 3DS’s biggest multiplayer and online games at the time! It’s time for another good-old fashioned race!

Mario Kart 7 was definitely a game I wanted to get done this year at some point, and since there was a convenient weekend project opening at the tail end of summer, it seemed like a good as time as any to get things moving here and get one step closer to being done/caught up with the Mario Kart series. I also feel like this is the first time I’ve been closer to finishing off the Mario Kart series than the Mario Party series. But anyway, back to what matters, another stroll through Mario Kart as I take a gander at all the grand prix cups on 150cc and Expert, look at some of the other modes that are available, and even take a few sessions of the game online for some fun and excitement!

Although this project is completed, I may return in the future with some more online sessions before the Mario Kart 8 project!

Crash Bandicoot

Crash Bandicoot

Game: Crash Bandicoot (N. Sane Trilogy)
Start Date: July 10th, 2018
End Date: August 4th, 2018

When Sony first came out with the Sony Playstation, they knew they needed a character along the same lines as Mario & Sonic to get the console going with a face their consumers could recognize. Enter Crash Bandicoot, a crazy and fuzzy creature who likes to spin his enemies to oblivion, collect lots of wumpa fruit, and provide general craziness as he goes through the world around him, trying not to die in this incredibly dangerous world. Two evil doctors have also kidnapped Crash’s girlfriend Tawna and he must also rescue from a fate worse than…whatever the hell those evil doctors are trying to accomplish.

Crash Bandicoot was a series I wanted to start this year on my channel, but I wanted to do the N. Sane Trilogy version which has much greater leniency and less difficulty than it’s original version on the Playstation. However, when this year came to be, I was unsure if the games would ever make it off of the PS4, so I did Ratchet & Clank instead. Then, after watching a Nintendo Direct and seeing that the collection was coming to Switch, I knew this was going to be one of my immediate summer projects!

This game has been a long-time coming, for a number of reasons. Not only have I wanted this Let’s Play to happen for many years now, but it also speaks a lot for American gamers back in the early 2000s when Super Smash Bros. Melee came out and when Marth and Roy were finally introduced to North American gamers who had no idea where they came from. This brought Fire Emblem into the limelight, and a few years later, Intelligent Systems finally graced International audiences with the first worldwide released game of the series. This adventure follows the heroes of Eliwood, Hector and Lyn on their quest to save their land from an oncoming evil, in turn-based strategy game goodness!

As I said before, I can’t even begin to tell you guys how long I’ve been waiting to do this game. This is my favorite Fire Emblem game of all-time, one of my favorite video games of all-time, and after looking at the list of games I had not done for the channel yet, I knew that I couldn’t go another year without having this game covered. Because of this, I finally decided it was time to jump into action and get this beast of a project beginning! Let’s save Elibe everyone!
