Mario Party Advance

Mario Party Advance

Mario Party had been a clear success on consoles, but after awhile, the developers at Hudsonsoft wanted to take the series and move it on to the Game Boy Advance, which had been a huge financial success at the time. The results were quite…different, to say the least. Anyway, Shroom City has been attacked by Bowser and he has taken all of the world’s minigames and “gaddgets.” It’s up to Mario and his three closest friends to help solve the troubles of Shroom City.

With all of the console Mario Parties being completed at this point, I knew that at some time I would need to take a trip to the handheld games, and after almost a year of no Mario Party action on the channel, I decided to give Mario Party Advance a try. Although it’s very different from the traditional Mario Party formula, even moreso than Mario Party 9, it does have its own charm and I wanted to share it with you guys.

A new evil face, by the name of Emperor Terrorin, has released a bunch of bad bombers on the universe and they are now causing havoc across Bomberman’s homeworld. It’s time to revisit some classic locations from the past four Bomberman games and save the universe from this new foe.

Although I wasn’t a huge fan of any of the Super Bomberman games past the 2nd installment, I did want to cover the entire SNES series for you guys and this was the only game in my way of a full completion. This game was an interesting one to go through, mainly due to all of the twists and turns that exist in this game, and not to mention loads and loads of backtracking, but I did manage to finish all of the levels and complete the game fully.

The main villain of Super Bomberman 3 is back to once again cause some more mischief, and this time, the entire fabric of time and space is at risk! Although Bomberman is not a timelord, he still knows a thing or two about stopping bad guys, particularly with explosive results!

I had already ventured into the territory of playing games not released in North America with the 3rd installment of the Super Bomberman series, but with SB4, we’re now getting into Japan-exclusive content here! There isn’t a whole lot to say about this game…I don’t feel like it achieved anything too spectacular…really just being another addition to bomb-exploding mayhem that is the Bomberman series. If that’s your thing, step right up and have a “walk through walls” power-up!

Remember the Five Dastardly Bombers from Super Bomberman 2? Well if not, they are back, but this time under the control of a new, evil mastermind! It looks like once again, Bomberman will need to save Planet Bomber from another intergalactic invasion!

This was actually the first game I played on my channel that had no American release, forcing me to play the European version. Bomberman is known for being a very repetitive gameplay series, and the 3rd installment of the SNES series is no stranger to that stereotype, with nearly all levels being a typical, “destroy all enemies, activate all switches” objective, and unlike the first two games, I never found this game to be particularly engaging, or as engaging. However, I did want to follow-up the first two playthroughs with the rest of the series, and this is my take on the third game.

The Star Carnival is in town, and MC Ballyhoo is the host for the festivities. Mario Party is all the rage, and Bowser just might be up to something as well. It’s another stroll down Mario Party lane and this game’s gimmick features the use of Nintendo’s Wii-Motion functionality!

While not much time had passed between my last Mario Party playthrough and this one, I figured it was time to get back into the Mario Party groove to start the year off right! It was quite interesting, making the move from Gamecube partying to Wii partying, but the spirit of Mario Party remained with us as we went along the journey!

During the Gamecube era, Mario Party got into the habit of releasing one game per calendar year, and Mario Party 7 was no different. In this rendition, Mario and his friends have gone on vacation, but when Bowser doesn’t get invited, Mario and his friends better think twice about who they exlcude, because Bowser is now going on a spree of rage, ruining whatever destination they travel to.

This Mario Party project had the unfortunate timing of taking place during one of my “computer decides to crash” phases, and as a result, was put on hold for a period of time. One of the most unfortunate aspects of this crash was the fact that during the course of this playthrough, my appreciation for this game had actually increased, when before, it was probably my least favorite of the Mario Party series.

The entity of the Sun, Brighton, and the moon spirit Twila, have been playing too much Kirby Super Star, and much in the same fashion as the sun and the moon in that game, the two siblings start to argue and put the world in a state of a day-night hybrid. Mario and his friends are once again in the middle of this dispute, and decide to play Mario Party, but this time with a day and night twist!

It was that time of the year where I knew Mario Party was going to be in demand again, and being the Mario Party nerd that I am, I had no reason not to endulge. With the success of Mario Party 5, I knew I had some big shoes to fill, but at the end of the day, all you need to do is party hard, and then the rest will follow! As usual, I covered all the Party Mode boards and all of the extra features and bonus games.

Planet Bomber is once again under attack, but this time the attack is being orchestrated by the Five Dastardly Bombers, a group of Bomberman rejects with their own special abilities. We can not let this injustice stand, so we must put an end to all of the mischief that these guys are causing.

Satisfied with the results of the first Super Bomberman project, I knew I wanted to cover the sequel as well, another game I grew up with, and a game with a more drawn-out Story Mode. As usual, I covered the Adventure Mode and did a few sessions of the Battle Mode.

Bowser is once again causing mischief, and this time, he decides to go for the world of dreams! The Dream Depot is in trouble, and once again, Mario and his pals need to stop him before he makes his dreams a reality. How do we stop him? By partying, of course!

This project was another viewer fan-favorite, featuring some exciting matches, hilarious moments, and some very memorable results. Let’s just say that this game will truly teach you the importance of every single coin!

Mario and his friends are arguing about who is the true superstar of the bunch. However, when the argument starts to get heated, Toad stops the flame war and decides that the group needs to play a game of Mario Party to determine who the superstar really is. This game was the start of Hudson Soft’s famous Mario Party franchise and was the flagship title that brought all of our favorite board games and mini-games to the gaming world!

Although this is the first installment of the Mario Party franchise, this was not the earliest Mario Party playthrough on my channel. I had previously done both Mario Party and Mario Party 2 (along with Mario Party 3 and Mario Party 4) before I came back to do this replay project. I had some problems with copyright on the original Mario Party and Mario Party 2 projects, so I had to remove the videos, but I did not have to remove Mario Party 3 or Mario Party 4, which makes them the earliest Mario Party projects on my channel. The older Mario Party projects can no longer be found.

This project is definitely one of my favorites of all the projects I have done on my channel. It set-up, established, and continued a lot of long-running jokes that would return in other Mario Party playthroughs and other LPs in general, including my tirade against the one and only Princess Peach!
