A common trend you will see with handheld games for Nintendo is releasing a ported version of an older game. For this game in particular, Nintendo and HAL Laboratories decided to bring back the SNES classic known as Kirby Super Star and put it on the Nintendo DS in the form of Kirby Super Star Ultra. It’s the same classic game we know and love with some additional content as well. What’s not to like?

This was a game I definitely wanted to get around to at some point once I had my permanent DS capturing device. I don’t remember what my plans initially were for this game back when I did the vanilla version of Kirby Super Star for the channel, whether I planned to just show off the new content or heck, not even show the game at all because DS capturing seemed like such an impossibility back then, but I decided to go for it anyway because it is such an amazing game as it is.

I have also included stream clips at the end of this project featuring my additional Helper to Hero runs to unlock the final movie!

Kirby’s Adventure

Kirby's Adventure

Game: Kirby’s Adventure
Start Date: August 19th, 2016
End Date: August 25th, 2016

Kirby is a very unique case for this marathon, as Kirby’s Adventure didn’t exactly launch his series of games, but it did debut one of Kirby’s most prominent and utilized features; the copy ability. King Dedede is up to some shady things at the Dream Fountain, so it’s up to Kirby to see what the heck is going on in Dream Land.

One question I had been getting for the longest time was “When are you going to do Kirby’s Adventure/Nightmare in Dreamland?” And honestly, I had been trying to fit it into my schedule at some point, but the timing just never felt right. However, when thoughts of the NES Marathon started entering my head, I knew Kirby’s Adventure had to be covered.

NOTE: If I do cover Nightmare in Dreamland at some point, it will be the MetaKnightmare mode and that’s probably it, considering it’s the same exact game as Kirby’s Adventure with updated graphics.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Game: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Start Date: January 16th, 2016

After the huge success of Super Smash Bros. Melee on the Gamecube, gamers during the Wii generation wondered when Smash was going to get its eventual upgrade. After a glorified E3 trailer, where Metal Gear’s own Solid Snake made his first appearance in the world of Smash, gamers were hyped for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. From the daily Smash Dojo updates, to the first reveal from Japanese content, to the newly established online mode, this game was looking to be a Smash hit!

After kind of stepping away from doing Melee 100%, I knew that there was no way a 100% playthrough of Brawl would be done. However, I did want to make sure that Brawl was still on the agenda at least, because this was definitely a big game for me during the years of 2008-2009. This playthrough will feature a full session of the Subspace Emissary, and I’ll also show off some content from the game itself as well. It’s time to BRAWL!

Kirby’s Dream Land 3

Kirby's Dream Land 3

Game: Kirby’s Dream Land 3
Start Date: August 12th, 2013
Runtime: 4 hours

Dark matter, the same icky stuff from Kirby’s Dream Land 2, has made its return, but this is not something our hero Kirby will be able to stand for. With new abilities and new animal friends, our hero is ready to once again save the day from almost certain doom!

This was the tenth “replay” project I did on my channel, as I had done some videos for the game at a prior date, but due to the poorer quality of the project, I decided to redo the project with a modern spin. The videos for the old project are still available for viewing on my channel, but there is no longer a playlist associated with that version.

Once again, I was dissatisfied with the original rendition of a project I had done and I wanted to do it over again and do it right. This time was Kirby’s Dream Land 3, a game that I originally played “blind” for you guys, but I was unhappy with the result as it gave a very unprofessional balance of “blind playthrough with post-commentary.” With the final result of this project, I will say that I was glad that I redid this project, although I will say that I wasn’t a huge fan of it either; my distate mostly stemming from the fact that I am not a big fan of this game, as I found out.

Kirby’s Dream Land 2

Something is a little off in Dream Land when King Dedede is once again up to his old tricks. That king always seems to show up when nothing good is happening. This time though, Kirby has his newly established copy ability, and a couple of animal friends to help him out!

At this point in time, I wanted to cover both the Kirby’s Dream Land series and the Super Mario Land series (as I wanted to replay the 3rd games of both series), but since I had not even covered the 2nd game yet of the Dream Land series, I felt like it was time! This was another game I really loved playing from my childhood and I was happy to bring it to you guys!

Dark Matter is once again on the loose, and it’s up to Kirby and his friends to make things right and banish the evil sludge back to where it came from. In order to accomplish this, Kirby must travel to several other planets and use some very new and unique powers, including a new mechanic of combining copy abilities!

I was smack dab in the middle of my Radiant Dawn playthrough at the time and wanted to make sure that I had a decent buffer in between the mass quantities of videos I was uploading for the Radiant Dawn project. I turned to Kirby, particularly my 2nd favorite Kirby game, for a bit of assistance, because everybody loves that Kirby guy! I do feel like this playthrough got kind of drowned out by Radiant Dawn, which is a shame because I thought this honestly went pretty well considering.
