Advance Wars: Dual Strike

Advance Wars: Dual Strike

Advance Wars was a big player on the GBA, especially in terms of turn-based strategy games, and even though franchises were starting to move to the Nintendo DS, that didn’t stop Intelligent Systems from using the well-established “Advance Wars” name. All our favorite COs have returned, with some new faces as well, for a new installment that throws a few new twists, and another screen, to the mix.

Advance Wars has always been a main staple of my channel, but truth be told, I was considering putting this off for a bit, even after getting the 3DS Capture Card. I just wasn’t sure if I was ready to get into ANOTHER Advance Wars game, just because of how time-consuming they can be. However, after thinking about it, and revisiting the game for a afternoon, I realized that I actually had missed the Advance Wars gameplay, and Dual Strike didn’t seem like it would be that big of an investment. Because of that, I decided to go for it!

Kirby Super Star Ultra

A common trend you will see with handheld games for Nintendo is releasing a ported version of an older game. For this game in particular, Nintendo and HAL Laboratories decided to bring back the SNES classic known as Kirby Super Star and put it on the Nintendo DS in the form of Kirby Super Star Ultra. It’s the same classic game we know and love with some additional content as well. What’s not to like?

This was a game I definitely wanted to get around to at some point once I had my permanent DS capturing device. I don’t remember what my plans initially were for this game back when I did the vanilla version of Kirby Super Star for the channel, whether I planned to just show off the new content or heck, not even show the game at all because DS capturing seemed like such an impossibility back then, but I decided to go for it anyway because it is such an amazing game as it is.

I have also included stream clips at the end of this project featuring my additional Helper to Hero runs to unlock the final movie!

Super Mario 64 DS

Super Mario 64 DS

Nintendo really wanted its newest handheld, the DS, to sell back in 2004. So what did they decide to do for one of their launch games? Remake Super Mario 64, give it some content, and show off the functionality of the DS’s dual screens with touch capabilities. So join, not only Mario, but also Yoshi, Luigi, and Wario on this classic revisitation of a world we once knew all too well.

So I was on the fence about doing a project for this game for awhile. I recognized it for being an absolutely new game with new content, but since I had done Super Mario 64 before, and since I was currently lacking a DS capture device, I figured I was going to give it a pass and move on straight to Galaxy. However, one of my good friends (who has requested to remain Anonymous), decided that he wanted to make the decision of whether or not I was going to LP the game, for me, by sending his own device for the sole purpose of Let’s Playing this game on my channel. I was honored by his gesture, it was a perfect time to do this game because I was in need of another project to do, and at the end of the day, it worked perfectly! So without further ado, let’s step into the world of Super Mario 64 again for….Super Mario 64 DS!

Thank you once again, SirBetaKnight!

Yoshi’s Island DS

Yoshi's Island DS

Game: Yoshi’s Island DS
Start Date: May 26th, 2015

After the events of Yoshi’s Island, Kamek goes on a baby-napping spree yet again and makes the mistake of messing with the wrong infants. This time however, Baby Mario is not alone as a few other select babies from the Mario universe are here to fight alongside the Yoshi race as they take back their island once again from Kamek’s evil deeds.

So here is a little backstory with this project….this has actually been in the works since like…2014, and even the tail-end of 2013 as well, however, with DS capture being a novelty that is not readily accessible, getting this one off the ground was quite the challenge. For those who watched my updates, this was the long-defined project known as “Project Babysitter,” a codename I gave this project in particular because the original Yoshi’s Island project was once considered some of my best work on Youtube. A month before this project was even recorded, this was still considered an impossibility until Nintendo gave us the wonderful news that DS games would be coming to the Wii U console’s eshop, and this game was one of the first candidates. This only meant that Project Babysitter could finally come off the ground!

Kirby Squeak Squad

Kirby Squeak Squad

Game: Kirby Squeak Squad
Start Date: March 4th, 2013
Runtime: 4 hours

Kirby really loves his sweets, but when a group of thieving mice called The Squeaks come to town and steal his dessert, the fun and games are over. Kirby must now give them chase, retrieve his lost cake, and pick up tons and tons of other treasure that he finds throughout his adventure.

It had been awhile since I used my DS-recording technology so I figured another DS Let’s Play would be a very welcome addition to the channel. The game I chose was actually a very random selection, but I figured that Kirby never usually did me wrong and this was a game I actually really liked and felt was underappreciated in a lot of different ways. This project also featured a lot of firsts for my channel, including the first time I used a channel-specific side-border for my videos, and the first time I used a “Previously on….” clip segment to remind people what happened in the previous video (most of the time it being a funny moment).

New Super Mario Bros.

New Super Mario Bros.

The move from 2D Mario gaming to 3D was a huge step for the portly plumber, but what happens when he steps back to his roots? Princess Peach has once again been kidnapped by Bowser and now Mario must begin one of the biggest chases of his life in this all new 2D platforming adventure on the Nintendo DS.

This was my very first Nintendo DS project, and although I knew there would be complications with my first DS Let’s Play, let’s just say I wasn’t expecting the specific complications that I endured, namely another computer crash that postponed the project for a few weeks. Despite this issue, I had a lot of fun with the game and it was a successful start for Nintendo DS games being covered on channel SlimKirby!
