Crash Bandicoot

Crash Bandicoot

Game: Crash Bandicoot (N. Sane Trilogy)
Start Date: July 10th, 2018
End Date: August 4th, 2018
Videos: 9

When Sony first came out with the Sony Playstation, they knew they needed a character along the same lines as Mario & Sonic to get the console going with a face their consumers could recognize. Enter Crash Bandicoot, a crazy and fuzzy creature who likes to spin his enemies to oblivion, collect lots of wumpa fruit, and provide general craziness as he goes through the world around him, trying not to die in this incredibly dangerous world. Two evil doctors have also kidnapped Crash’s girlfriend Tawna and he must also rescue from a fate worse than…whatever the hell those evil doctors are trying to accomplish.

Crash Bandicoot was a series I wanted to start this year on my channel, but I wanted to do the N. Sane Trilogy version which has much greater leniency and less difficulty than it’s original version on the Playstation. However, when this year came to be, I was unsure if the games would ever make it off of the PS4, so I did Ratchet & Clank instead. Then, after watching a Nintendo Direct and seeing that the collection was coming to Switch, I knew this was going to be one of my immediate summer projects!

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Game: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Start Date: January 19th, 2016
Videos: 23

Although there are some who are very, very faithful to the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy on the SNES, there was still a huge positive response for Donkey Kong Country Returns when it released on the Wii a few years prior. With the Wii U in swing, Retro Studios decided to release a follow-up titled Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. While essentially being the same formula used in Returns, Retro made use of the Wii U’s HD graphical capabilities to make a game with some pretty interesting instances of level-design. It also introduced some new monkeys into the Returns formula, along with swimming, and a new type of enemy who wants to turn all opposition frozen solid.

People were disappointed that I didn’t do Tropical Freeze in 2014 or 2015, as I was in the middle of doing a Donkey Kong Country game every year since 2010, and Tropical Freeze was technically out by 2014. However, I didn’t own it yet until 2015, and by then, I hadn’t played a whole lot of it. I knew 2016 would be a good year for it though, especially smack dab in the harsh winter months where for the last two years we’ve been bombarded by snowfall. Although that is not necessarily the case for Indiana this year, other places have been getting hit pretty hard. Anyway, not much else to say here….going through Tropical Freeze, 100%ing the game and getting all the puzzle pieces. Time trials or Hard Mode will not be a concern of mine, and although I will try to get figurines, I will not be grinding for them if I don’t get them all.

Donkey Kong Country Returns

Donkey Kong Country Returns

Game: Donkey Kong Country Returns
Start Date: May 19th, 2013
Runtime: 8 hours
Videos: 24

The Donkey Kong Country trilogy has always been widely accepted as one of the SNES’s best staples, but in 2010, game developer Retro Studios, the same mind behind the Metroid Prime series, felt it was time to give this series a comeback. That comeback title is now known as Donkey Kong Country Returns. Although the Kremlings are no longer around, the ancient tribe of the Tikis has started causing trouble around DK Island, using some kind of magic to make the animals do their bidding. However, when they mess with Donkey Kong’s banana stash, they will soon learn that they picked on the wrong ape.

After having the entire SNES trilogy under my belt, I turned my attention to the Wii’s reimagination of the DKC series. Although I wouldn’t say I like it as much as the SNES games, this game was still a really nice attempt at bringing back a classic series and I give Retro Studios a lot of credit where it is due, and for this game, they deserve a lot of credit. Overall, I wouldn’t say this project accomplished all that I hoped it would, but it was still a great playthrough nonetheless and I hope you guys enjoy it too!

Adventures of Lolo 3

Adventures of Lolo 3

Game: Adventures of Lolo 3
Start Date: October 15th, 2012
Runtime: 7 hours
Videos: 17

Lolo is back, but this time he is not alone! Princess Lala has joined the party to help Prince Lolo defeat Egger once and for all. The great beast has loads and loads of new puzzles and new traps for the dynamic duo, so they better be reading for some classic block-pushing action!

I was kind of in this phase at around the time of this project where I really wanted to finish and close out any series I had started on at this point and time. It started with Donkey Kong Country, went on to Super Mario Land, and with the finale of the Super Bomberman games coming at the end of the year, I decided to go back even further to 2009 and close out the Adventures of Lolo trilogy. I was waiting for the game to appear on Virtual Console, but with no release in sight, I figured I would go ahead and do it anyway. For those who love classic Lolo puzzle solving, there is plenty of that in this game, so I hope you enjoy!

Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3

Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3

Game: Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3
Start Date: September 11th, 2012
Runtime: 3:22 hours
Videos: 10

After getting booted out of Mario’s Castle in Super Mario Land 2, Wario knew that he was destined to own a castle of his own; which brings him to Kitchen Island! Although the island is covered in pirates, Wario doesn’t seem to mind, beating them up good and collecting as many coins as he possibly can. I suppose anger and greed “could” be a solution to domestic issues…at least for Wario anyway.

This was the ninth “replay” project I did on my channel, as I had done some videos for the game at a prior date, but due to the poorer quality of the project, I decided to redo the project with a modern spin. The videos for the old project are still available for viewing on my channel, but there is no longer a playlist associated with that version.

Wario Land was another game I really wanted to replay because I wasn’t completely satisfied with my original rendition, done during a time where bad controller lag and unsynched audio problems nearly destroyed any enjoyment I had with the project. Overall, I was satisfied with this redo as it not only fixed all of the issues of the original project, but was also really fun to play through again.

Pac-Man Party

Pac-Man Party

Game: Pac-Man Party
Start Date: May 6th, 2012
Runtime: 7 hours
Videos: 22

Mario is known for his crazy parties, but what happens when another iconic video game character decides to throw a party of his own? Some of you might be saying “Sonic Shuffle” or “Crash Bash,” but what if we go back even earlier than those characters? What about Pac-Man? Well, you are in luck, because to celebrate his 30th birthday, Namco would like to introduce, Pac-Man Party!

Despite the teaser at the beginning (where I teased that this would be a Mario Party 9 playthrough), I knew I wanted to play this game for you guys when I first received the game as a Christmas present in 2011. Although it might seem to be another half-baked take on the Mario Party franchise, I do feel that Pac-Man Party does have some very good production values and does have a charm of its own. I don’t think it’s a perfect game (and it could use a variety of improvements), but it’s really fun for what it is and has some creative ideas.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Game: Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
Start Date: June 20th, 2011
Runtime: 3:58 hours

Dark Matter is once again on the loose, and it’s up to Kirby and his friends to make things right and banish the evil sludge back to where it came from. In order to accomplish this, Kirby must travel to several other planets and use some very new and unique powers, including a new mechanic of combining copy abilities!

I was smack dab in the middle of my Radiant Dawn playthrough at the time and wanted to make sure that I had a decent buffer in between the mass quantities of videos I was uploading for the Radiant Dawn project. I turned to Kirby, particularly my 2nd favorite Kirby game, for a bit of assistance, because everybody loves that Kirby guy! I do feel like this playthrough got kind of drowned out by Radiant Dawn, which is a shame because I thought this honestly went pretty well considering.

Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon

Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon

Game: Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon
Start Date: February 21st, 2011
Runtime: 5 hours
Videos: 18

In the country of Japan, starting in the little castle town of Oedo, strange things are happening when a large, peach-shaped mothership descends from the skies and warps the castle beyond all recognition. Goemon and his buddy Ebisimaru are the only ones who seem driven on investigating this act and what unfolds is a tale you would honestly have to see to believe!

This game was a classic between me and my best friend from high school and it was a game I really wanted to show you guys at some point during my Youtube career. I spent hours, and possibly days, laughing at this game’s nature of silliess, and with my playthrough of this game, I hope you guys can now do the same!

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Game: The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
Start Date: June 6th, 2010
Runtime: 15 hours
Videos: 76

After the conflict of Hyrule covered in Ocarina of Time, Link goes on a quest to find a lost friend. What does he find instead? A cursed mask, a parallel world of Hyrule, and a whole new quest that will take him to places that he never thought possible. Want to know the twist? He only has three days to accomplish this feat!

I wanted to do another long project, but more along the lines of Hit and Run and not Advance Wars. I decided to go with one of my all-time favorite Nintendo 64 titles, and a game I personally preferred over the beast that is known as Ocarina of TIme. Majora’s Mask is an extremely immsersive gaming experience, and although it has more sidequests than you can even shake a stick at, it was an experience that I wanted to share with you guys, even despite its length. I showed off this game and its entireity, getting all the items, masks, upgrades, and heart pieces, and even showed off some secrets.

Super Bomberman

Super Bomberman

Game: Super Bomberman
Start Date: November 30th, 2009
Runtime: 2:09 hours

Something has gone wrong on Planet Bomber, and two mysterious evil-faced guys are trying to build evil machines to take over the world. And what’s the best way to take these machines out? With bombs of course! This was the first of Bomberman’s SNES series, and it’s introduction was quite….well….super!

After finishing the Adventures of Lolo, I wanted to do something very similar, as I was quite enjoying the puzzle kick I was currently on. What came out was another classic game from my youth, the start of the Super Bomberman series! I covered the adventure mode, and perhaps the biggest draw to the Bomberman series, the Battle Mode!
