Crash Bandicoot

Crash Bandicoot

When Sony first came out with the Sony Playstation, they knew they needed a character along the same lines as Mario & Sonic to get the console going with a face their consumers could recognize. Enter Crash Bandicoot, a crazy and fuzzy creature who likes to spin his enemies to oblivion, collect lots of wumpa fruit, and provide general craziness as he goes through the world around him, trying not to die in this incredibly dangerous world. Two evil doctors have also kidnapped Crash’s girlfriend Tawna and he must also rescue from a fate worse than…whatever the hell those evil doctors are trying to accomplish.

Crash Bandicoot was a series I wanted to start this year on my channel, but I wanted to do the N. Sane Trilogy version which has much greater leniency and less difficulty than it’s original version on the Playstation. However, when this year came to be, I was unsure if the games would ever make it off of the PS4, so I did Ratchet & Clank instead. Then, after watching a Nintendo Direct and seeing that the collection was coming to Switch, I knew this was going to be one of my immediate summer projects!

Donkey Kong Land

Donkey Kong Land

Game: Donkey Kong Land
Start Date: February 8th, 2017
End Date: February 13th, 2017

Donkey Kong Country was a huge success on the Super Nintendo. However, Cranky Kong was a bit unconvinced on how well it did, saying that the only reason it sold well was due to the high quality graphics at the time. To counter this, DK and Diddy once again go on another quest, this time on the Game Boy, to show that graphics aren’t everything and that Donkey Kong is just a fun series in general.

Here’s the thing about computer repairs; sometimes it takes more than just one Game Boy project to last the entirety of the repair duration. So after Metroid II was completed, I went to another Game Boy game that I had yet to cover and this time it was Donkey Kong Land. Although not as amazing as the Country games, it was still very interesting to check these games out.

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie’s Double Trouble

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie's Double Trouble

Runtime: 5 hours

If capturing Donkey Kong wasn’t enough, it seems like Diddy Kong has also gone missing, which means that it is Dixie’s turn to figure out what the heck is going on in the world of Donkey Kong Country. This time she is joined up by her cousin Kiddy Kong who has some unique abilities of his own (although for the most part, he is just a copy of Donkey Kong). The duo will have to search places like Kremwood Forest, Mekanos, and Razor Ridge to find their friends!

To close off this SNES trilogy, I bring you DKC3! Although it’s not my favorite of the trilogy, I still have very fond memories of playing this game with my friends, and like the two installments that came before it, it’s filled to the brim with excellent platforming gameplay, some very intriguing puzzle elements, and the general monkey madness that ensues from any game with the Donkey Kong label.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

Donkey Kong has been captured by the vicious Captain K. Rool (any relation to King K. Rool? I have no idea, but I like to think they are the same person), and Diddy Kong is now the monkey in the spotlight, this time joined by his new partner and girlfriend, Dixie Kong! This dynamic duo will now test their limits in this all new quest of monkey madness, and pirate-themed scenarios!

Like I established the previous year, I wanted to cover the entire Donkey Kong Country series, and at this point, the critically acclaimed sequel was next on the list. This game is definitely my favorite of the trilogy (although I do love all 3), so I was quite amped to take this one to the end!
