The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

Game: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
Start Date: September 4th, 2018
End Date: —

It’s time to enter the world of Zelda yet again, but this time with a two-for-one special! After the success of both Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, Nintendo knew the Zelda train should continue on the Game Boy Color, and with the additional success of Pokemon and their strategy of creating multiple versions of essentially the same gameplay concept, the Oracle games were born! This is the first of the Oracle games I will be covering; Oracle of Seasons!

I’ve been wanting to do Wind Waker for awhile now, but before I officially go on to tackle that beast, I wanted to get the Oracle games out of the way first, just so I can continue the Zelda series in the order of game release. I don’t have the most experience with playing the Oracle games, but I do enjoy the gameplay system set up by Link’s Awakening and thought it would be a good series of games to do in the chill-down period of 2018. I will be covering Seasons first and then Ages following it.

Metroid II: Return of Samus

Metroid II: Return of Samus

Game: Metroid II: Return of Samus
Start Date: February 2nd, 2017
End Date: February 7th, 2017

Samus Aran is back in action and this time, she’s armed to take down some Metroids. SR388 is the Metroid homeworld and Samus has strict orders to take down every Metroid for fear they will once again be used for malicious intentions in the galaxy. She’ll need to brave the deepest and darkest caverns to accomplish this task and may come face to face with Metroid royalty.

This project pretty much came out of nowhere due to some computer issues I was having and needing some smaller projects to do in the meantime while I was getting the computer fixed up. Metroid II was a game I finished for the first time not long before this happened, so I decided to give this project a shot. It was on my list to do this year anyway, but it was nice to move it up for this occasion as I had fun doing this game for you guys.

Bomberman

Bomberman

End Date: August 18th, 2016

Good ol’ Bomberman has also had his beginnings on the NES console, although his beginnings are a little….more basic and barebones. Regardless, it’s interesting (at least for me) to go back and see what this guy was made of at the very beginning. In this game, robots have been enslaved by the forces of evil to make bombs in their underground tunnels, and there is a rumor that the one who makes it to the surface can become a human and stop living in a world of nonstop bomb manufacturing.

After streaming this game awhile back, I wanted to give this game another go on Youtube and actually complete it for a Youtube project. I had the entire Super Bomberman series completed on my Youtube channel, but there technically were some Bomberman games before that too, so why not get those taken care of?

Metroid

Metroid

Game: Metroid
Start Date: August 9th, 2016
End Date: August 13th, 2016

Metroid is another series that had its glorious beginnings on the NES console. This was Samus Aran’s true first mission (as far as game releases are concerned) and now we are going to experience it in all of its old school, NES glory. Let’s take down that Mother Brain!

Much like Zelda, Metroid was another game that I just didn’t have the drive to finish for a really long time, after being spoiled to the updated controls of Super Metroid and pretty much any other Metroid game. However, there is definitely some charm to this game as well and I’d be a fool to ignore it.

The Legend of Zelda

The Legend of Zelda

End Date: August 6th, 2016

All great legends start somewhere. This legendary series started on the NES back in 1986 and 1987. Link sets forth to collect the 8 triforce shards and stop the evil Ganon from destroying Hyrule.

The NES Marathon has started and the first game I chose was The Legend of Zelda. It’s a game I’m….not really that familiar with, much like all of the games on this NES console. However, it is a very important game to the series because this jump started a beloved series. I knew I had to cover this at some point, so let this be the first game of the marathon!

I will also be doing a playthrough of Second Quest on my stream channel that will get uploaded to this playlist at some point.

Metroid: Zero Mission

Metroid: Zero Mission

Game: Metroid: Zero Mission
Start Date: January 1st, 2015

Samus Aran is the hottest female bounty hunter in town, saving planets and research stations from Space Pirates, metroids, and various other creatures. Metroid: Zero Mission is the retelling of Samus Aran’s first mission on the Planet Zebes, in other wards, a freaking awesome remake of a very barebones NES game! This is the story of her Mission Zero!

It had been awhile since my last Metroid playthrough and since I was still not incredibly familiar with the first two Metroid games, I figured Zero Mission was a nice compromise. Not incredibly long, but with a good amount of substance as well. I also think it was a good way to start the year of 2015, with quite literally a bang!

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Game: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Start Date: June 18th, 2013
Runtime: 6 hours

With the King of Hyrule in a vegetative state and several female descendants of the seven wisemen gone missing, all eyes turn to the evil wizard Agahnim. Princess Zelda feels that she is next in line for the wizard’s nasty plot and reaches out for a hero to save her. That hero just happens to be Link, and before he knows it, he starts out on his quest to save Hyrule!

I had not done a lot of Zelda on my channel, but I assure you that I am a huge Zelda fan, just as much as the other Nintendo series. I guess I just prefer Mario and Kirby to a much larger extent, but that is just my own, honest opinion. We all started somewhere though with the Zelda series, and this game was the game I started with! I hope you guys enjoy my romp through this classic SNES title.

Super Metroid

Super Metroid

Game: Super Metroid
Start Date: November 27th, 2012
Runtime: 3:41 hours

The legacy of Samus Aran has always been a fan favorite, and her second adventure to the Planet Zebes is a cult classic among Metroid fans. Upon leaving the Ceres Space Station, after the events of Metroid II, Samus gets a distress call from the station, returning to find it completely lifeless. She finds that the space pirates (from Metroid I) are responsible, and she returns to Zebes to set things straight.

Metroid was one of the few Nintendo series I had left on my radar and I figured it was time to tread these new waters with a bang from a fully-charged Charge Beam. I went with my favorite game of the series, as it was the one I remember most and have the most fun playing, and I felt like it was a great one to start with, and end the year with!

Super Bomberman 5

A new evil face, by the name of Emperor Terrorin, has released a bunch of bad bombers on the universe and they are now causing havoc across Bomberman’s homeworld. It’s time to revisit some classic locations from the past four Bomberman games and save the universe from this new foe.

Although I wasn’t a huge fan of any of the Super Bomberman games past the 2nd installment, I did want to cover the entire SNES series for you guys and this was the only game in my way of a full completion. This game was an interesting one to go through, mainly due to all of the twists and turns that exist in this game, and not to mention loads and loads of backtracking, but I did manage to finish all of the levels and complete the game fully.

Super Bomberman 4

The main villain of Super Bomberman 3 is back to once again cause some more mischief, and this time, the entire fabric of time and space is at risk! Although Bomberman is not a timelord, he still knows a thing or two about stopping bad guys, particularly with explosive results!

I had already ventured into the territory of playing games not released in North America with the 3rd installment of the Super Bomberman series, but with SB4, we’re now getting into Japan-exclusive content here! There isn’t a whole lot to say about this game…I don’t feel like it achieved anything too spectacular…really just being another addition to bomb-exploding mayhem that is the Bomberman series. If that’s your thing, step right up and have a “walk through walls” power-up!
