Question Corner

Question Corner #13 - 2/21/17

Ok guys, it’s time for another Question Corner. I don’t really have much to say here, so let’s just get this show on the road!

As usual, if you would like to submit a question of your own, you can do so here; at the contact page. Just make sure the question is appropriate, has some substance to it, and is nothing too personal (don’t ask where I live or what my family’s last name is, basically).

Q: Which Sonic game was worse, the Game Boy Advance version of Sonic the Hedgehog or Sonic the Hedgehog 2006?
A: I have not played either, but I’d probably say the GBA port of Sonic 1, just because of how bad it looks, how slow it is, and how crunched in the screen was. Sonic 2006 was definitely an unfinished bad dream, but at least there was “something” there, despite how broken it was. There was really no excuse to make a classic game like Sonic 1 look and play so badly.

Q: Would you ask your future father-in-law permission to marry his daughter?
A: I consider myself an old-fashioned guy, but not that old-fashioned. At the end of the day, I think the daughter’s opinion holds more value than the father, since she is the one making the decision. I do think it is important though to have a good relationship with the father, if you are going to marry into the family, but at the same time, he shouldn’t be the one making the decision either; if that makes sense.

Q: Do your parents enjoy playing video games?
A: My dad enjoys playing games every now and then, but he only sticks to Civilization and basic computer games (like Hearts and Spider Solitaire). My mom is even less of a gamer than my dad, but she did get into a tablet game once that involved killing zombies with bombs and other projectiles.

Q: Will you do Top 10s and lists for the handheld Mario Party games, and will you do skits for them as well?
A: At some point, yes, but not for awhile. As far as skits are concerned; I’ll consider it, but to be honest, I thought a lot of my skits were pretty dumb honestly, so I don’t see them returning. We’ll see though…

Q: Where would you like to go on vacation?
A: It’s a typical, unsurprising answer, but to my usual vacation spot in Orlando, Florida at my mom’s timeshare. I just love going there every year and it’s just very nice to go to our home away from home and relax for a week! Really don’t need to go anywhere fancy…just to a place where we can relax.

Q: What do you make of the Donkey Konga games?
A: I’ve never personally played them, but they were made at a time when rhythm gaming was picking up steam, so it’s not really surprising that they were made. They seemed pretty interesting though and games I wouldn’t mind trying someday in the future.

Q: Are you a fan of heavy metal?
A: I don’t know…it’s a little too heavy. It hurts my back whenever I try to lift it. In all seriousness, no, I’m not much of a metal guy. I can tolerate it sometimes when it comes to bands like Metallica, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden, but I wouldn’t say I’m a fan of it.

Q: What is your opinion on GiivaSunner and his high quality video game rips?
A: Click Here

Q: What is your ACTUAL opinion on GiivaSunner and his high quality rips?
A: Real talk, I love his high quality rips. Listening to them last year and checking his channel every single day for new videos was always a good time I had with my friends. My favorite ones were ones that involved the DK Rap, Snow Halation and of course, good old FLEENSTONES!

Q: Do you think HAL should make a Kirby game like the 3D Mario platformers, or keep his games in a 2D format?
A: It’s a tricky thing with Kirby, because his gameplay style just seems to work very well in 2D and I don’t really see how it could in 3D. Not saying it’s impossible…I just can’t see it. I imagine it could be done though, but all of the newest Kirby games have been great in my eyes and I would like to see them create more of them.

Q: Who are your favorite video game composers?
A: David Wise, Grant Kirkhope, and Koji Kondo are my favorites for sure. I even had the pleasure of meeting and getting autographs of the former two.

Q: Do you find it sexist that Ocarina of Time has more female sages than male sages?
A: No.

Q: Did someone seriously ask you that last question?
A: Yes…

Q: Do you think Mario Party is the best party series that exists right now?
A: Yes, definitely. Say what you want about Mario Party 10 and Island Tour, but even those games can lead to enjoyment and I just haven’t been able to have the same joy with any other party game.

Q: Would you want to see more Sonic characters in Smash Bros., like Tails and Knuckles?
A: Yes I would, and those two are probably the only two characters I would like to see. They are pretty unique with their own abilities, I can see them controlling in unique ways, and they are good characters.

Q: Do you have any favorite cartoon shows aside from the Simpsons?
A: I am a very big Futurama fan as well. I’ve also watched a lot of South Park as well. In recent years, I’ve also started watching MLP: Friendship is Magic and Steven Universe, so those shows are the ones I feel most strongly about, in a good way.

Q: What do you make of leaplings?
A: I feel no different about people born on February 29th than I feel about any other person that is born on any other day of the calendar year, whether it’s Leap Year or not.

Q: What new games are you looking forward to playing in 2017?
A: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey and Fire Emblem Warriors are already very strong front runners.

Q: Now that Mario Party DS and Wario Land 3 have been done, what is the most requested game for you to Let’s Play on your channel?
A: Pikmin 3 is easily the biggest request I have right now and it will probably remain that way until I do the game. The only thing is….not really sure when I want to do it. I did a stream playthrough last year, but I want to play it again before I feel comfortable playing it in an LP format, since I did have some issues getting through the game.

Q: What’s your favorite Michael Jackson song?
A: My favorite MJ song is either Smooth Criminal or Billie Jean.

Ok, I think that’s it for another Question Corner! Thanks for reading guys and remember, if you want to ask a question, go to the intro of this episode where I have a link to the Contact page!

Question Corner #12 - 12/24/16

Hello everybody, SlimKirby here, and welcome to another edition of the Question Corner!

I decided to release this as a Christmas Eve gift for you guys. Why in particular? No reason really….I was just checking how many questions I had in my backlog and noticed that I had over 20, so instead of waiting for the next day I picked to answer questions, I figured why not just upload what I had very quickly. That’s really all there is to it I guess.

As usual, if you would like to send your own questions, you can do so at my Contact page. Just make sure the questions are questions I have not answered before, are appropriate questions that don’t get too deep into my personal life, and are at least somewhat discussion-length and not just simple “Yes or No” questions.

Q: What would you like to see in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild?
A: I think the game looks pretty promising so far, but as far as what I would want most from it; I just want the game to keep giving me a reason to come back. The idea of an open-world Zelda is pretty awesome, but if they make the world too big and too empty with not a lot of reason to come back, nor have some kind of continuous goal for me to achieve, I don’t think that would be a great move for the game. What captivated me about other Zelda games was the gameplay (in terms of adventuring, puzzle solving and combat), the cool items I could use and play around with, and the story, which was usually good enough for me to come back to and do multiple playthroughs of those games. At this point, it’s really hard to say if this Zelda will feature those elements, or at least in the same way that the other games have, so there is a little concern, admittedly. I’m still very much looking forward to it though.

Q: What are your favorite Donkey Kong 64 levels?
A: Favorite level is hands down, Frantic Factory. It has the best music, the switching between kongs wasn’t super monotonous like it is in other levels, and it had a lot of diverse areas for a freaking factory. It’s also, love it or hate it, the home of one of the greatest arcade games of all time. And considering this is the level where you unlock the final kong, I like it because it starts to feel like the game is in full swing and you’re ready to experience everything that each world has to offer (since some areas are restricted in the first two levels). I also like Creepy Castle and Angry Aztec as well.

Q: What are your opinions on Amiibos, now that they have been out for awhile and the initial craze has died out a little?
A: From the get-go, I was never super into the Amiibo functionality for games. I was more interested in having them for my collection because they are essentially figurines of my favorite video game characters, and I figured that would be the main draw anyway. I’m glad they aren’t introducing too many at once anymore and they seem to be coming out in small series waves. That way, if it’s not a series you are into, you can ignore it and wait for something else you might be interested in and save your money. I recently bought Waluigi, Daisy and Boo and it was nice being able to walk in Gamestop a few days after they came out and pick them up with no availability issue, so it’s good that they seem to be stocked better. So yeah, not much to say beyond that. I still think they are cool, but I’m not at all surprised that the craze died down.

Q: What future game do you feel nervous about LPing?
A: The Dynasty Warriors series. I love the series so much, but I’m not sure how I want to do the series yet because there is a lot I want to cover with each game, but trying to keep the videos enjoyable without being too repetitive is going to be a huge challenge. A challenge I’m not sure how to approach yet.

Q: Do you prefer to grow a moustache or beard?
A: Beard. I don’t think I look good with just a moustache. Apparently though, according to most of my subscribers, my beard is “legendary,” so another reason to have one I guess.

Q: What is your main motivation for doing Let’s Plays?
A: I do it because people enjoy my videos and I want to provide more content for them. Not to mention it’s also kind of my job now too. Aside from that though, I also do it for myself. I get bored really easily and when I get bored, I waste time doing stuff that doesn’t really serve any sort of purpose. Doing Let’s Plays and Youtube stuff is great because it puts my mind to something I can focus on and it involves video games, my favorite past time and my greatest passion.

Q: How are you when it comes to meeting new people?
A: I try to be as nice, or at least as neutral as possible, when it comes to meeting new faces. I’m not really much of a socialite and I admit I can be a little awkward at times, but I try. Truth be told, I’m actually a very shy person at heart, so whenever I’m trying to start a conversation or initiating a discussion, it takes a lot out of me and inside I’m sweating bullets. This is why I prefer people to take lead sometimes, because it allows me to contribute as much as possible to make up for any silence that I can’t really fill in myself. So really, never be afraid to approach me or talk to me, as I will do anything and everything to be kind and make a good impression, but don’t be surprised or offended if it gets a little quiet.

Q: Does fear of copyright issues stop you from doing any games on your channel?
A: Sometimes, but since I managed to do Simpsons: Hit and Run, Road Rage, and The Simpsons Game without really any issues from Fox, I don’t think there is really anything holding me back. If I had to pick one game that I’m still kind of nervous about, it would probably be Kingdom Hearts, just because of how scary Disney can be sometimes, but I think I’m still going to try and get around to it at some point.

Q: If you had children, what would you like to name them?
A: Since I am technically the third “Robert” in my family, I would like to continue that name because it does feel somewhat special to be the “3rd” in a family line. So for my son, I would probably go for that and maybe use his middle name as the more common name, just to avoid typical same-name issues. For a daughter, I’m very partial to the name “Laura” for some reason.

Q: How tall are you?
A: I haven’t measured my height in a while, but a little under 6 feet. 5’8 or 5’9; or something like that.

Q: Will you do a draw my life or play my life video?
A: Not to the former because I can’t draw to save my life, but I have thought of doing a Play My Life video at some point. Couldn’t tell you when that is going to be though.

Q: Do you want a large family or small family?
A: I’d be more partial to a small family. Having a wife and one or two kids would be just perfect for me. I didn’t grow up with the brother/sister dynamic, so I’d like to see that in action, even if I wouldn’t be the one having the sibling.

Q: Are there any games that are very popular with gamers that you don’t really care for that much?
A: When it comes to first-person shooter games like Halo and Call of Duty, I’ve never really been able to get into them, and it’s not really because of the genre either because I love Goldeneye 007. I also had a really hard time getting into Splatoon as well. I thought it was a cool concept and it was nice seeing Nintendo do something new and very different, but I just couldn’t really get into it that much.

Q: Did you ever want to follow in your parents footsteps in terms of working in the field of Education?
A: That was actually my first major when I started attending college, but I quickly dropped that major after my first year because I really wasn’t too keen about being a teacher for the rest of my life. I have nothing against kids or teenagers, as I’m sure most of my fans are in that age group, but I’d rather provide them with entertainment as opposed to knowledge. It’s a lot less stressful for me, for sure.

Q: What’s the coolest thing you have made as a gift?
A: It was not so much a gift, but more of a gesture. I was talking to a friend of mine once, and she was talking about how she didn’t like to make snowmen because they are eternally stuck in one place before they just melt anyway. So one day, after it had snowed, and since she only lived down the street from me, I made a small snowman, put it on the top of my car, and drove down to her house, calling her and telling her to go outside because “we” are going to wave as we drive by. I later told her that it was so the snowman could finally experience the thrill of not staying in one place. She thought it was a sweet thing to do for her and the snowman.

Q: If you had a genie, what would you wish for?
A: An extra hour every single day. You’d be surprised all that you could accomplish if you had one more hour to work with, and over time, that one extra hour will start to add up. I feel like every hour, minute and second is precious, so you should always make sure you are doing something you enjoy with it.

Q: Do the results of your “Project of the Year” videos impact what you do the following year?
A: It’s a small impact, but it is definitely there. That’s pretty much why I did Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and even Super Paper Mario as early as I did, just because people seemed to really enjoy my Paper Mario RPG. I also got around to Pokemon Gen 2 a lot earlier than planned as well with how popular Pokemon Blue was.

Q: What stores do you like to shop at?
A: Insert the typical gamer answer here; Best Buy and Gamestop. I’ve recently gained an appreciation for retro game stores like Game X-Change.

Q: If the Nintendo Switch fails, do you think Nintendo will pull a Sega and only work on software, not hardware?
A: While I think Nintendo is not exactly on stable ground right now, I still think it has quite a bit of life left in it. I do see this as a big possibility, bigger than I ever thought it would be, but I wouldn’t count them out just yet. The Switch will definitely determine a lot though, for sure.

Q: If you and your future wife ended up having twins, what would be your reaction?
A: It would be very shocking, for sure, going from having not just one kid, but two kids in an instant. It would also be a huge step up in responsibility and work, but I would find a way to make it work.

That’s all for today! Thanks for reading guys and thanks to all the question submissions as well! Have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays in general!

Question Corner #11 - 11/18/16

Hello everybody, SlimKirby here and welcome to another edition of the Question Corner.

It has been awhile since my last update, but to be fair, questions have been slow going again. Honestly, it wouldn’t even surprise me if some of these questions were asked by the same people. Regardless though, I did promise whenever I would get 20 questions, I would immediately update, and here we are!

As usual, if you are interested in submitting a question, please go to the Contact page to submit one. Just remember that I will not be answering any questions that are too personal, questions that have been asked before, most “Will you LP/Have you played this game?” questions, and other questions that just don’t seem appropriate for this section. Also, if you have a question about how to do Let’s Plays or other in-general Youtube questions, check out the SlimKirby’s Workshop section to see if I haven’t answered it there already, as there was a question I got last time that revolved around that.

Anyway, let’s get this started, shall we?

Q: “What are the occupations of your parents?”
A: My mom is an elementary school librarian/media specialist. My dad is an instructor for kids with special needs at a middle school and teaches a few social studies courses on the side. I am very proud of my parents for all the work they do to help children!

Q: “What did you think of the Simpsons and Futurama crossover?”
A: I actually looked into it recently and really enjoyed it. It was fun seeing my two favorite shows come together for a special!

Q: “Who would you save from a burning building? Princess Peach or Princess Daisy?”
A: Do “I” really need to answer that? Haha, well, as you guys know, I like Daisy way better than Peach, so I would be more inclined to save her. However, even though Peach is a big meanieface, I wouldn’t intentionally wish anything like a burning death on her, so if possible, I would try to save both. If this question came down to people in real life, just to make this a little more interesting, I would definitely save my family and friends at all costs. Anybody else? I would do anything I could to help, but I wouldn’t be as motivated to jump in the middle of the flames or anything, if that makes sense.

Q: “What is the best April Fools joke you played?”
A: One time I convinced my dad it was snowing outside and got him to actually jump out of bed early and go to the other room to look. Aside from that, I don’t play a lot of April Fools pranks. Although I do love the “One Hour of Impact” joke I did on my channel a few years ago, when I fooled people into believing I was doing a Radiant Dawn Let’s Play, when it was actually an hour of “I am Impact” from Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon.

Q: “What do you think of Star Fox Adventures compared to other Star Fox games?”
A: Star Fox definitely does better as a space shooter than an adventure Zelda-style game. I do appreciate the attempt to try something new (although it was moreso a different game altogether that didn’t have Star Fox characters until Nintendo got Rare to shoehorn the Star Fox name into the game), but I think Assault was overall the more enjoyable Gamecube Star Fox game. I don’t think Adventures is a bad game necessarily, but it does fall flat in a number of areas that I think Zelda games overall do better anyway.

Q: “Are there any perks to being an only child?”
A: You don’t have to share any of your toys or games with anybody. That’s really about it. Honestly, I think I would have much rather had a brother or sister growing up. I think it would have been more beneficial in developing my social skills because I always felt I was a little too awkward in trying to make friends at school, and aside from my parents, I just didn’t really have anybody to talk to. I suppose it would also be a bit easier for your parents to provide for you too, just because there would be less mouths to feed, less school supplies to be bought and less college funds to provide for, if that makes sense.

Q: “Have you ever listened to the rock band Muse?”
A: I’ve heard a few of their songs. The first time I heard them was through Guitar Hero III, because their song “Knights of Cydonia” is in that game and I always thought it was a pretty fun song to play through. But yeah, they’ve made some good music. Wouldn’t say they are a favorite artist of mine, but definitely not opposed to them either.

Q: “What do you think of the Kirby and Donkey Kong cartoons?”
A: The Kirby cartoon was all right. I wouldn’t say it was anything spectacular, but for what it was, it was watchable, at least in my opinion. The Donkey Kong cartoon on the other hand; again, I can’t say it was bad, but it was definitely a show that’s easier to mock than enjoy.

Q: “What are your thoughts on YouTube’s new advertiser-friendly content guidelines?”
A: I will admit, it is very silly that people like the Nostalgia Critic and the Angry Video Game Nerd, individuals who have spent years establishing themselves as channels with mature content (AVGN especially) can now have their monetization taken away due to updated content guidelines. As far as I’m concerned though, I’m kind of biased just because I try my hardest to keep my channel clean and accessible for all ages, so I don’t think I will personally have any issues. Heck, even my Walking Dead videos have been clear of issues and there are so many mature themes in those games. Otherwise though, I can’t really support the new guidelines, just because of examples like I mentioned earlier.

Q: “Do you think Spanky from Spanky’s Quest would make a good Smash Bros. addition?”
A: No. As fun as the game is, that’s just reaching way too far beyond the realm of possibility. He would have kind of an interesting playstyle though, I guess, lol.

Q: “What are we going to see for your 10th year anniversary”
A: You will definitely see a clip show (as promised) and there will definitely be a marathon stream following. As far as other specials, I’m still thinking. 10 years is a pretty big deal to me, in all honesty. Aside from that, don’t really want to mention anything about it as to keep it a surprise.

Q: “What video game do you find confusing?”
A: The only game I can think of is a game called “Populous” on the SNES, but only because my uncle had the game, but whenever I tried to play it, I couldn’t figure it out. HOWEVER, I was also only like 6-years-old when I tried it, so I would probably have a better understanding of it now.

Q: “Can I adopt you to be my son?”
A: First of all, no. Second of all, I don’t think my parents would be down for that. Third, I think I’m way too old to be adoptable. I appreciate the thought though, I guess…

Q: “How are your workouts coming along?”
A: I stopped going to the gym because I have an exercise bike at home now, but I am keeping up with it on a daily basis, so very well! Thank you! And with the weather getting alot cooler, it’s the perfect time for me to be going outside on more walks. I hate summer and early-fall temperatures.

Q: “What’s your favorite type of cake?”
A: I am very fond of cheesecake. Shoutouts to angel food cake and carrot cake though, as they are also very good in my opinion.

Q: “What’s your favorite and least favorite character in Scrubs?”
A: Favorite character is Dr. Percival Cox. Just a very funny and down-to-earth character that I really respected and loved on the show for who he was. Least favorite character? It’s hard to say, but of the main cast, probably Elliot, just because I couldn’t connect with her as well as some of the other characters, but even she was fine in doses.

Q: “Why do you play games like Walking Dead and not Resident Evil?”
A: For the very simple reason that I don’t have any Resident Evil games. Well…I guess I do have Resident Evil 4 now, but even then, I just haven’t gotten around to playing any of them yet. With Walking Dead, it’s easier because I am a fan of the show and graphic novel so the Walking Dead games appeal to me in a way Resident Evil doesn’t.

Q: “What type of car would you like to own?”
A: I really don’t care much. A car is just a device to get me from point “A” to point “B.” I would like to have a blue car (I own a silver one now since my old blue car is no longer in service), but I don’t need to have one. I guess I would also prefer cars as opposed to trucks and SUVs.

Q: “Why do you use your website as a medium to answer questions as opposed to your Youtube channel?”
A: I just think a website is more appropriate, especially since my website is kind of an archive dedicated to my online life as it is. That’s really all there is to it. Plus I’m not going to lie, it’s easier to write all of this down than get stumbled on various questions trying to think of answers. This way I have some time to think about it.

Q: “Is there a game that came out 10+ years ago that you remember initially loving, but now isn’t as good as you remember?”
A: Honestly, not really. When I go back to revisit old games, the nostalgia always seems to kick in no matter what. I remember Super Mario Kart being a lot easier than it is for me now, but I wouldn’t say it’s a bad game now because I don’t enjoy it as much. Also had a really hard time getting back into Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Mario Sunshine when I did them for my playthroughs awhile back, but again, can’t really say they are bad games, moreso I just don’t have the same enjoyment with them as I used to.

And that will do it for another Question Corner! Thanks everyone for submitting and if we get enough questions in a short period of time, maybe the next issue will be up sooner than this one!

Question Corner #10 - 9/26/16

Hello everybody, SlimKirby here, and welcome to another edition of Question Corner!

I don’t have much to say this time around. I appreciate people being patient with me and not trying to force me to rush these out. It may not seem like these issues take a lot of work, but when you are constantly and consistently working on Youtube, Twitch and various other mediums, it definitely takes a toll after awhile. If you want to submit a question of your own, please go to the Contact page and send one.

As usual though, make sure your question is appropriate before you send it. Leave all personal and private matters out of the equation. Also, try to avoid very basic “yes” or “no” questions and questions that have a very narrow topic; like questions that ask if I’ve played a certain game series and what my opinion on that game series is (especially if it requires me to play that series, because chances are that I have not played it yet and cannot give an opinion on it. So let’s get this started now, shall we?

Q: “What is your best score at golf?”
A: Nothing spectacular, I’ll tell you that right now. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten anything lower than a +15. I have been able to get pars and birdies before, even on Par 4s, but my skill at golf is nothing that amazing.

Q: “How has 2016 been in general?”
A: To be bluntly honest, 2016 hasn’t been that great for me. I wouldn’t say it was the worst year ever or anything, and there have been some really nice highlights (Magfest 2016, Momocon 2016, reconnecting with old friends, etc.), but the year has also been filled with a lot of just very slow to no progression on a lot of different fronts. Finding work has been absolutely terrible, and I don’t even want to get into how depressing the world of politics has defined this year.

Q: “What is your favorite Disney movie?”
A: Hands down, my favorite Disney movie is Aladdin. That’s the first Disney movie I remember seeing at a movie theater, I think it still holds up very well today, and as a child, I had the biggest crush on Jasmine…although admittedly, I still kind of do. Shoutouts to The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast for being solid runner-ups.

Q: “Would you like to see another Mario Kart game like Double Dash?”
A: Would I mind it? No, because Double Dash was fun and it worked very well, but a part of me thinks they don’t need to go in that direction again. The last few Mario Kart games have been very solid and I just don’t think there is a need to drift away from their current trend; no pun intended

Q: “What are your thoughts on Pokemon Gen VII?”
A: I’m excited for Gen 7 and have thoroughly enjoyed all the news and updates about it. Although I think Alolan Exeggutor is stupid, I love all the other Alolan forms and am really curious to see how all of the new Pokemon are going to work and play out. I was also really enjoying the footage we got to see at E3. The interface looks neat and with the additional options and data we can now see inside the game, it just feels like we won’t need to rely on sites like Serebii or Bulbapedia as much. I also appreciate them trying to keep the gameplay fresh, by trying something new for the gym system. Not that there was anything wrong with it, but sometimes just mixing it up a little can be good for a series, because aside from general mechanic updates, Pokemon really hasn’t changed much since Gen 1; at least in terms of going to 8 gyms across the land, stopping the evil team, and becoming League Champion.

Q: “What is your opinion on the direction of the Paper Mario series?”
A: Right now, it’s not good. I was incredibly disappointed by Sticker Star and Color Splash seems to be more of the same which is not what I wanted from Paper Mario. I really do want them to go back to the old days of Paper Mario as I’m sure they will not regret that decision one bit if they do because it seems pretty apparent that it is what people want over what the series is now.

Q: “Do you wish you had magical powers to change some of the stuff in your life?”
A: Definitely! I think everyone secretly wants that power just because it would make things a lot easier for people, despite being extremely unrealistic. Don’t get me wrong, I like putting in the effort to do it myself and it will be more rewarding that way, but just to make the journey a little easier…

Q: “What was the most rage-inducing moment in your gaming career?”
A: I seem to run into a very specific moment in certain games all the time where I attempt a really hard challenge, potentially the hardest challenge in the game, have a really good start, and then just proceed to choke big time, watching that golden moment just fly away from my grasp. One moment recently was when I was playing 100% Orange Juice, trying to beat every single player mode on “Expert.” I was playing the hardest map, I set myself up to win the game, but then for like 10-15 turns, I couldn’t move at all, which pretty much caused me to lose the game. I was getting so mad and frustrated, I created some new profanities in my rage. But that is only just one instance of many that have happened over the years.

Q: “Has the NES Marathon inspired you to do another NES marathon at a future date and time or do a marathon with another classic system?”
A: Honestly, I have already thought about the potential for a follow up NES Marathon next year because this marathon has been a lot of fun to do and there are plenty of NES games I still have to do. As for other systems, maybe, but it’s a little harder with other systems because I definitely grew up with Nintendo games and many of the games shown in the NES Marathon are games where I played a future entry in the series, but not the first one.

Q: “What’s your favorite game from each Nintendo console?”
A: NES – Super Mario Bros. 3, SNES – Super Mario World, N64 – Paper Mario, GCN – Tales of Symphonia, Wii – Super Mario Galaxy, Wii U – Hyrule Warriors, GB – Pokemon RBY, GBA – Fire Emblem, DS – Pokemon Heart Gold, 3DS – Animal Crossing New Leaf

Q: “What inspired you to do the NES Marathon?”
A: Pretty much as stated in the introduction video, I never grew up with the NES and many of the series I love in gaming started on the NES, so I felt it was appropriate to take some time and visit/revisit those games for the channel. And since they are all short games, why not just get them all done in a month?

Q: “How does your family and friends feel about what you do on Youtube?”
A: My parents have always been very supportive of my Youtube channel. In fact, they tell their students about my channel all the time and I have gotten a few new subscribers out of it. My friends are also aware and are very proud of me and think what I do is pretty cool. My other family members are usually the same way, but there are some members of my family who don’t really get or understand it, but they also come from a much different generation than I do.

Q: “Would you ever do another 24-hour Mario Party Marathon again?”
A: Definitely! Not right away, but I would be down to do it again in the future. Heck, I wouldn’t mind doing other marathons either.

Q: “Why do you allow only 20 questions per episode?”
A: At first it was because I was getting a lot of questions at once and thought it would be a good number to cover multiple issues instead of just doing one long issue. If an article/page is too long, some people may not want to read the whole thing.

Q: “What is it like to have your birthday on the day after Christmas?”
A: There’s not really a whole lot to it. On the 25th we celebrate Christmas and on the 26th we celebrate my birthday. Usually the 25th is reserved for a family gathering where we exchange all of our gifts and get to see everybody (and I usually get all my birthday cards/money on that day too), and then my birthday is usually just a celebration with my parents (we go to my favorite restaurant) or my friends. As a kid, this never really affected any gifts I got. I usually got some kind of toy or game for Christmas and some extra money for my birthday. Plus, I was never really that picky or spoiled of a child, so I didn’t put a lot of emphasis on gifts anyway. I was always happy just to have the family together.

Q: “Do you find gorons cute?”
A: Why does it seem like I get a lot of “is this cute?” questions every now and then? Well, regardless, I don’t think they look ugly, necessarily, but I don’t know if cute would be my definition of them.

Q: “Did you keep up with the 2016 Summer Olympics?”
A: Honestly, no, I have not. I’m not really big into professional sports as it is, so I wouldn’t really find a lot of enjoyment out of the Olympics either. I think it’s cool that every few years the entire world gets together to compete, but it’s just not something I would personally watch or invest my time into.

Q: “What game could you play over and over again and never get bored with?”
A: Super Mario World is the definitive answer. I would probably also add Kirby Superstar and Paper Mario to that list as well.

Q: “What is your favorite season of the year?”
A: It’s hard to say, because honestly, I like cool and breezy weather; nothing too hot or nothing too cold. So with that being said, probably either spring or fall. If I had to pick one though, I would probably go for fall, especially the month leading into winter. That always just seems to be a time where I am feeling the best.

Q: “Do you want to visit the Kirby Café?”
A: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD YES! That would be so cool!

I’m going to answer one more question because it’s very relevant to recent happenings and I don’t know when the next Question Corner will be up, so it makes the most sense to address it now when it’s still on my mind.

Q: “Do you watch Big Brother and if so, what is your opinion of the most recentseason?”
A: I’m guessing this question was brought on by a few of the tweets I made over the past few weeks. Anyway, yeah, I do watch the CBS reality show Big Brother. I’ve been a fan since Season 12 when I saw my parents watching it and decided to watch along with them, and I actually found it kind of interesting. From there, I went back, watched all the seasons (some a few times) and have kept up with it every year since. As far as this most recent season is concerned though, I was very disappointed. The season had way too many twists and way too many ways for players to come back into the game after they had already been evicted/kicked out. The returning/veteran players (people who had played before) were terrible choices and they either played terribly or didn’t play the game at all, and the fact that the production staff had tried so hard to rig the game so those players would win or get far was absolutely frustrating. The only saving graces of this year were Paul and Victor who were very engaging to the audiences and very entertaining, and I think it’s an absolute travesty that Paul lost to Nicole, who did nothing but lay in bed with her boy-toy for like….80% of the show. Yeah, she played at the end of the game, and of all sixteen houseguests, she was still probably in the upper-tier of the players, but compared to Paul, she should have lost big time. Paul played the entire game, was always in the thick of things, came up with many strategic moves, won competitions when he had to and laid low when he had to, and doing all of that for a player who had never played or watched the game before was absolutely amazing. Next to Danielle from Season 3 and Vanessa from Season 17, he is one of the greatest players of Big Brother to never win the game. Victor was also a really good player, but didn’t deserve to win because he got evicted three times, although him making history by winning his way back into the house twice was amazing to watch. Aside from that though, I don’t really have much else to say about this season because honestly, it was one of the worst seasons to watch as a fan and I really hope they step up their game for next summer. I’m also not going to watch the CBS All Access version of Big Brother that’s about to debut because I don’t want to pay money to watch a show I normally watch for free.

But yeah, that’s about it for this Question Corner. Like I said before, I don’t know when to expect the next one, so if you want to see the next one as soon as possible, send in those questions because you may get lucky with an early release! Just don’t spam any random question though and try to at least put some thought into it, just so we don’t get a bunch of questions like, “What color are your shoes?” X_X

Question Corner #9 - 8/11/2016

Hello everybody, SlimKirby here, and welcome to another edition of Question Corner!

Like I said during the last Question Corner, there was a bit of a backlog I was working with, so I am not surprised at all that this issue came out as soon as it did. I don’t expect the next one to be as immediate though. With that being said, if you want to submit a question of your own, please go to the Contact page and send one.

Let’s get started though.

Q: “What would your reaction be if Nintendo went out of business or got bought out by Apple?”
A: Honestly, I would be sad if Nintendo went out of business. I’ve grown up with Nintendo my entire life and it would absolute devastate me to hear that there would be no more Nintendo games. I mean, even I agree that Nintendo hasn’t been making great decisions lately, but I still enjoy their games regardless. So yeah, it would devastate me. Also, I am ignoring the secondary “Apple” question because…reasons. I just really don’t want to think about that possibility.

Q: “On a scale of 1-10, how cute are lumas?”
A: They are an out-of-this-galaxy, ’11!’ So freaking cute!

Q: “What’s your current opinion of Shigeru Miyamoto?”
A: I think he is a straight-up, honest and lovable guy. Do I think he is as great as he once was in the video game world? Probably not, but I give credit where it’s due and he’s been a part of some of the greatest video games of all time and I can’t ignore that. I think it would be cool to meet him and shake his hand someday, but we’ll see.

Q: “Have you thought about doing a personal documentary for your 10th year anniversary?”
A: That sounds more like a project for when I ever decide to throw in the towel, which won’t be anytime soon.

Q: “In what room do you film your 1-up Box videos?”
A: I normally film them in my office. The room I used in my May video (and one other video) was my bedroom, and the one I used in my July video was the living room.

Q: “What are your favourite levels on both Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie?”
A: In Banjo-Kazooie, my favorite level is probably Freezeezy Peak. In Banjo-Tooie it is definitely Witchyworld. I will give shout-outs to Gobi’s Valley and Grunty Industries for being solid runner-ups though.

Q: “Do you like cats?”
A: Cats are fine. I do like how they aren’t as chaotic as dogs in terms of energy, but I am probably still more of a dog person. At the end of the day though, I probably wouldn’t own either unless it was an absolute requirement of my future spouse, whenever that becomes relevant.

Q: “Do you remember the Fruit Vendor on Seinfield?”
A: Yes…why is this a question?

Q: “Do you see any value on tackling the Super Mario Advance GBA remakes on your channel?”
A: It’s really hard to say just because while there is some unique content for each game…they are still pretty much the same games at the end of the day. Super Mario Advance 1 is probably the most unique of the series, but even I’m not crazy about doing it. I’ve already done the secret levels of SMA3 on my channel as SMW2:YI extra videos. Super Mario Advance 4 has the E-Reader levels (but that’s it). And Super Mario Advance 2, while I think it does have the least amount of changes…it is a port of my all-time favorite game with a mediocre sound chip. So honestly, I have no idea how I want to handle these games, IF I ever even want to do these games.

Q: “What things scare you?”
A: I don’t have any big fears. There are things that can freak me out, but never to extent where I can’t function. Insect infestations, heights, being trapped in a small, secluded space, being alone for a long period of time, dangerous animals…again, all things that are perfectly harmless until the point where I’m actually having to deal with them, which in most cases won’t even happen.

Q: “If you could choose the gender of your child, what would you want first?”
A: Honestly, I would want a boy first just so I could continue the family name. Otherwise, it wouldn’t matter too much and I wouldn’t be disappointed if I ended up only getting girls as my children.

Q: “What is your favourite thing and least favourite thing about making Let’s Plays?”
A: Quite simply, my favorite part of making Let’s Plays is just being able to play the games that I love all over again! As for the things I dislike…the inevitable rough recording sessions where everything goes wrong and makes me feel “meh” about what I’m playing at that moment.

Q: “Should Mario Kart have a drag-racing mode? And as a follow-up, should Mario Kart have racing venues from the real world, like Daytona and Indianapolis?”
A: No. I just don’t find drag racing very interesting. As for the real world racing venues, I feel like the realism would take away from the cartoony and fun fantasy world of the Mario series, so double negative for this question.

Q: “What conventions do you see yourself attending in the future?”
A: As far as 2016 is considered, I’m done with conventions. I’ve already spent all of my available funds for trips this year and need to start saving for next year. As far as next year is concerned, Magfest will be top priority. I am also interested in attending Con Bravo to see some of my Canadian friends, but there is no guarantee yet. Momocon might also be a possibility yet again as well.

Q: “Do you think they should have made a Pokemon Snap 2?”
A: Honestly, I think it’s something that could have been done for sure. Heck, even the Wii U Gamepad software would have been perfect for that. Not to mention that there are over 700 Pokemon and the first Pokemon Snap only had 63. So yeah, I think there would have been plenty of potential for it.

Q: “Do you enjoy taking photos in real life of anything and everything?”
A: I’m not really a big camera or photo guy. If I see something interesting or funny, I’ll usually take a picture of it with my phone or something, but that’s really about it.

Q: “Who is your favorite sage in Ocarina of Time?”
A: Honestly, I like all the sages with exception to Rauru and Nabooru. Rauru just seems so boring and unlikable and Nabooru was basically just, “We need someone to be a sage for the desert area, so let’s just make it this character we just met.” If I had to pick one I really liked though, I guess I would have to go with Darunia. I just like his attitude when you meet him in the Fire Temple, where it’s like you both are working together to stop Volvagia and save the gorons.

Q: “Have you ever watched an LP of yours and thought, ‘Do I really sound like that?’”
A: All the time. In fact, I think that’s a common feeling anybody has to watching their own work. I think it’s because you spend your entire life with your voice, so when you hear it back, you are completely underwhelmed because there is no mystery to it. It’s just like… ”well, this is just me,” opposed to watching a video by someone else, hearing their voice for the first time and just having that initial reaction of taking it all in.

Q: “How is everything in Indiana?”
A: Uh, it’s fine, I guess? The weather is starting to get cooler, which is good because I hate hot and dry summers. We’re losing our terrible, terrible governor that has ruined our state for too many years, which is always a good thing. In general, I don’t mind living in Indiana, but there are times where I yearn to live somewhere different.

Q: “Would you want to see more of the United Kingdom?”
A: This question is in reference to me talking about Brighton in one of my Super Mario Galaxy videos. Basically, I went to the UK during my senior year of high school for a class trip. We spent about one week in England (and a miserable day in France (it was only miserable because it was a very gloomy day and we literally only got to see like…2 hours of Paris)). We saw a lot of stuff and went to a lot of places during that week (most of which I can’t really remember), but some of the highlights were Brighton, Stonehenge, Shakespeare’s birthplace at Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford, and various places across London. It was a really cool trip, I got to go with a lot of my friends, and overall was just a really good time. Would I ever want to go back and see more of the UK? I would definitely not be against it, but I wouldn’t be disappointed if I never got the chance to go back either.

Well guys, thanks for joining me for another Question Corner! I will see you guys next time when I get enough questions!

Question Corner #8 - 8/1/2016

Hello everybody, SlimKirby here, and welcome to another edition of Question Corner!

It was slow-going with questions for awhile, but once we got to the month of July, things started picking up again. In fact, I meant to have this issue up last week, but I had a lot of stuff going on, including participation in PowerToMario’s Mario Masters Invitational competition. Posting this issue was not off my mind, but so many other things came up. However, I will not leave you guys empty-handed, I promised you an update, and I will give you an update. Heck, Question Corner #9 is about filled up as well!

Just a few reminders, as usual, make sure your question meets the qualifications as explained on the previous page; please leave personal and inappropriate questions out of your submissions, and please try to avoid simple questions like “Have you played this game?” because chances are, I will not have a very long or in-depth response to that. Also, I only make these posts when I have enough questions AND at my earliest convenience. Threats or intimidation will not speed up these posts, so if you are going to do that in order to make the next part come out, you are a waste of space and you need to find something in your life that has meaning, so seriously grow up and get over it. But with that said, if you have a question, please go to the Contact page to send one.

Q: “Are you a fan of the Dragon Ball series?”
A: I tried watching Dragon Ball Z when I was younger but could never get into it. Then one night a few years back, I watched an arc of the original Dragon Ball (it was a tournament series), and actually found it somewhat interesting. Aside from that though, I don’t have any major interest in the series. If I did ever watch it, it would be the original DB series and not DBZ.

Q: “Do you enjoy the PC or console version of the Sims series?”
A: I feel like the Sims games were made for PC, but some of the console variations are interesting. To answer the question though, I would pick the PC over a console for Sims.

Q: “Would you ever want to see a Futurama Hit & Run, a game like Simpsons: Hit & Run with Futurama characters?”
A: I would like to see a Futurama game where they put a lot of work into it much like they did with Simpsons: Hit & Run, but as far as type of game is concerned, not sure if the sandbox style of game would work as well as it would for Simpsons. The Futurama world isn’t as established as the Simpsons world because the technology of the Futurama world kind of makes the idea of vehicular transport kind of moot and pointless, if that makes sense. Again, that kind of assumes that they stick with the sandbox style of game though, which they might not. Honestly, a Futurama game that’s set up kinda like The Simpsons Game (the Wii/Xbox360/PS3 video game) could work. In fact, I think they did make a game like that, it just didn’t do incredibly well.

Q: “Do you like the Gamecube game Wario World?”
A: Heh…I wonder if the person asking this actually saw the stream I did for the game….because I didn’t exactly have the greatest time with it. Honestly, I think it’s a fine game, but it has some really weird and annoying design choices that I’m not really a fan of. I can’t say I hate the game, but I’m not exactly fond of it either.

Q: “Do you think you will ever be a guest on a collab channel like The Runaway Guys, SuperGamingBros or BrainScratchComms?”
A: Personally, someday I am sure I will be featured, at least on TRG, in some form, whether it’s in one of their tournaments or something that has some kind of relevance to my channel (like Mario Party or Fortune Street), but at the same time, that is not up to me. That is up to the people who own those channels and I have no control or say in that. I would be interested and have voiced that interest many times, but the timing has never been there yet, I guess. I don’t think I would fit in the SuperGamingBros channel, but only because when I think of that channel, I can only picture that channel being Johnny, Elliot and Matt because they are the “Super Gaming Brothers,” like…literally. I would absolutely be honored to be a guest on BrainScratchComms at some point in the future.

Q: “What individual game do you think is stronger in the Sonic 3 & Knuckles combination?”
A: I think Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is the stronger game. I love both games individually, but I feel like Sonic & Knuckles has kind of a weaker mid-game. It tried to focus a little more on story with how Knuckles gets deceived by Robotnik, which is cool in its own right, but Hidden Palace and Sky Sanctuary just feel so short and are so empty in Knuckles playthrough. But again, at this point it feels like I’m splitting really thin hedgehog hairs because they are both really good games.

Q: “Would you like to see Daisy or Waluigi get their own spinoff games?”
A: No. I think enough of the Mario franchise characters have gotten their own games, and even though both Daisy and Waluigi have their own kind of fame (and/or notoriety), I just don’t have any desire to see a game with them as the main characters, in my own personal opinion.

Q: “Would you do a video on imitating Kirby’s dance?”
A: No, for a number of reasons. I can’t move as fast as Kirby. I can’t squish my body down as thin as Kirby can, I can’t jump as high as Kirby can….there are just a number of factors for why this isn’t a good idea and why it couldn’t work! Sorry though, lol.

Q: “Have you ever woken up one day and just thought ‘I just don’t feel like Let’s Playing today,’ and not done it as a result?”
A: Interesting question, mainly because that kind of depends on how Let’s Play videos are done from person to person. With the way I do videos, I do multiple videos on one day, so I’m not necessarily recording one episode per day. I just upload one episode a day, which isn’t exactly a super hands-on process. I just make the title, the video description, and it’s done. Because of this schedule though, I’m really only working on Let’s Play videos 4-5 days per week, and if I keep that going, I can essentially get a lot of videos done in advance which means I have a few extra days I can take off before I need to worry about a new episode needing to be done. I used to do one video per day (the recording, editing, etc.), but after a while, it just made more sense to record multiple and have them done ahead of time. I think it was around Majora’s Mask when I had this revelation, because it would have been annoying to save and quit when I was like, in the middle of a dungeon or something. But again, it varies from person to person. There are some days where I feel like postponing my work a little bit, but I’m usually ahead enough that it doesn’t usually lead to me missing an update or anything like that, so consider this a “yes” to your question, but technically a “no” as well, as there are very few (if any) days I’ve missed unless I absolutely had to miss them.

Q: “What character is your favorite and least favorite in Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones?
A: If you couldn’t tell from my playthrough, I’m really fond of Tana, just because she starts out as this character who needs to be saved and protected and is supposed to stay out of combat. However, when you actually get to use her and as her level starts increasing, she can freaking destroy everything. I am also very fond of Gerik and Cormag as well, but that is because they are awesome no matter what. As for characters I don’t like story wise, I can’t stand Riev because a part of me doesn’t really understand what the hell is he supposed to be. A priest corrupted by magic? A straight-up zombie? He just doesn’t really make a lot of sense. Clearly he is supposed to be evil, but unlike Caellach and Valter, he just isn’t very flushed out. I’m also not a fan of Eirika’s depiction during her route at the end of the game, as I talked about in the bonus episode for that project. As far as combat though, Moulder has never really seemed to be that good of a character for me, and Knoll with his piss-poor defenses seems like more trouble than he is worth.

Q: “How do you think Smash Bros. should handle Target Test in the future Smash installements?”
A: I know people tell me that making over 50 individual target stages, one for each character, isn’t exactly optimal, and I do understand and get that, but at the same time, the thing I liked about the target stages were how they tested the character’s individual attributes and moves. That’s what made the stages fun and I think that’s the best way to use the mode in my eyes. So even though it’s more work than probably desired, I don’t care, I think there should be target stages for every character; UNIQUE target stages. Not the stage for each difficulty in Brawl or the Angry Birds knock-off in Smash 4. I want to see individual target test stages again.

Q: “What are your thoughts on Yooka-Laylee so far?”
A: So far, I’m honestly very, very interested and would like to see more about it and eventually get the game as well. It looks like a game I would really, really enjoy playing!

Q: “Will you have more reviews posted on your website?”
A: I would like to do more gaming reviews, but I’ve been holding back because I’m not sure what kind of reviewer I would want to be. I’d actually be more interested in doing more game retrospectives and stuff of that nature aside from just looking at an individual game and comparing it and contrasting it to others. I would still probably do that in retrospectives anyway, but my mind would probably be a little more focused as I would be playing the entire series at once. But basically, I have no idea. I’m still trying to figure it out and at the moment, I’m under the mindset that I should focus on my Let’s Playing first and foremost before I add anything extra.

Q: “Do you like the television show Scrubs?”
A: I used to watch Scrubs all the time when it was on and it will always remain one of my all-time favorite shows. It’s so funny and also so touching and beautiful at the same time. It’s really a shame how some of the later seasons went though. It had a beautiful ending at the end of Season 8, but then it tried to do a Season 9 with new characters and a new set-up which just didn’t work very well. Aside from that though, the first 6 seasons are classics, Season 7 was ok, and Season 8 was a good finisher, at the absolute least. We just won’t speak of Season 9.

Q: “What are your thoughts on Wario Land 3 and 4 and will you do Let’s Plays on them?”
A: Wario Land 3 is pretty cool and I will admit that an LP of the game is kind of in the works. It’s on my “To-Do” list for LPs, but not my immediate one. Wario Land 4, I don’t know too much about. I think it’s going to be a case, much like Sonic CD and Mega Man 7 where I want to play through the game first before I actually do a playthrough on it.

Q: “How do you maintain your focus, energy and stamina when you host those 24-hour streams?”
A: I do what I can, for the most part. The human body is a very interesting thing, especially because it really does need that downtime to recuperate from nonstop alertness. I can usually make it twenty hours with no issues, but trying to make it to the twenty-four hour mark is a very difficult challenge. My only advice is to get plenty of sleep beforehand and have various meals throughout the day. Only hit the caffeine or sodas if you really need them, and make sure you have someone alongside you to keep you company and your focus on point. Also, make sure the reason for why you are doing a 24-hour stream is always fresh in your mind. For example, my recent Mario Party stream was my way of saying “thank you” to my fans while also raising money for charity on the side. Those incentives kept me going strong through the entire marathon!

Q: “Do you have plans to ever bring back the Star Warrior Cup?”
A: I actually get the question more often than I ever expected to. Honestly, I would like to bring this back at some point, but I want it to be a streaming thing so I can interact with people during the event. The only problem is that my Internet hasn’t been very kind when it comes to streaming and playing games online at the same time. It just doesn’t really work and one of the two things always crashes. I may consider it again when I get better Internet sometime in the future, but for now, it’s not really an option, so my apologies.

Q: “What is your motivation for working out and getting into shape?”
A: Honestly, I’ve been battling a weight problem for my entire life and I would like to make some permanent changes to my physique. I don’t really intend to massively slim down or anything like that, but just to lose some weight and take better care of myself. I want to live a long and healthy life.

Q: “Have you any interest in the game L.A. Noire?”
A: Believe it or not, I do. I saw the SuperGamingBros playthrough of the game last year and really enjoyed what I saw. The fact that it’s really similar to Grand Theft Auto with the twist of being on the law enforcement side of crime really interested me, alongside the interrogation segments as well. I did purchase the game this year on the Xbox360, so I do have it in my collection. I plan to do my own playthrough (by myself and NOT on Youtube or Twitch) very soon!

Q: “Has anyone told you that you look incredibly different wearing glasses?”
A: No one needs to tell me, I see it too. I look incredibly different with glasses. In fact, I once did an online picture quiz where it guessed my age based on a picture of myself. I took two pictures, same exact pose, one with glasses and one without, and there was like a 10 year difference with the age, no lie.

And there we go for another twenty questions. Thanks to everybody for submitting! Have a great day!

Question Corner #7 – 5/23/2016

Hello everybody, SlimKirby here! Getting ready for Momocon, but I have gotten quite a few questions since my last post, so before I leave for a week, I figured I would get another one of these posted before I head out.

As usual, make sure you continue to follow the guidelines for these questions if you would like to submit a question yourself. Don’t ask anything too personal or anything inappropriate, and try to avoid asking very simple questions like “Have you played this game?” or “What do you think of this game?” because those will generally lead to very short and uninteresting answers. If you would like to submit a question yourself, go to the Contact page.

Q: “Who would be your dream date, regardless of occupation, fame, religion, race, etc?”
A: I’m honestly not extremely picky when it comes to that kind of stuff, as long as it is someone who can make me smile, laugh and accept me for who I am. Do certain qualities resonate with me better than others? Sure, I’m not saying I don’t have a type, but I’m not going to limit myself to those qualities if there is someone who I find I care deeply for. They don’t even have to be a gamer, although it would be nice to play a game or two of Mario Party every now and then! But I think it is important that we share a lot of the same hobbies and interests, and even if we don’t as long as we can at least talk about them together and encourage each other in exploring our own passions further. I know that doesn’t really answer the question of a “dream date” and is more about “finding your perfect partner,” but again, it’s not something I put a whole lot of thought into. I’m not just going to date someone because she’s popular for being on some tv show. I’d be more interested in their personal endeavors outside of that, if that makes sense.

Q: “What are your opinion of the Dorkly video game animation shorts?”
A: I think they are fine. Some of them are funny while others have….incredibly obvious humor that you can see from a mile away. It’s not something I will keep up with, but if I see one that interests me out of the corner of my eye, I’ll probably check it out.

Q: “Would you like to see a second Donkey Kong 64 game?”
A: Yeah, I think DK should give the 3D platforming realm another go. I honestly do really love Donkey Kong 64, even though it does go a little far on collectibles and is kind of slow-paced compared to other 3D platformers of its time (Banjo Kazooie and Super Mario 64). But the game itself is still extremely solid and is a game I go back to every now and then for a good gold-banana hunting time!

Q: “What is your favorite breed of dog?”
A: I’ve always been fond of german shepherds and labs. Lately though, I’ve been unable to get over how freaking cute huskies are (thanks to PokemonCheese and WolfofStorms for that constant reminder).

Q: “What kind of car do you own?”
A: I own a 2000s (don’t know the exact year) Buick Century. It’s a really comfortable car and I enjoy driving it. I just wish my right windshield wiper would stop screwing up…..

Q: “If you were given a chance to partner up with a larger Youtuber, who would you choose and why?”
A: It would actually be really cool to partner up with Chuggaaconroy sometime. Regardless of our past, I have so much respect for the work he does on Youtube and given the right game and circumstance, I think it would be a fun time. I would also love to partner up with somecallmejohnny as well because not only is he my favorite Youtuber, I just have a lot of respect for him as a reviewer and I have so much fun watching his videos (and any video he is included in).

Q: “What do you think of Youtube’s big announcement in regards to Content ID claims?”
A: I think it is a very good start, but the endgame could still use some improvements. The system has been definitely broken for years, largely due to the fact that it’s an automated system, and despite the fact that I’m aware that it is quite a lot to ask of Youtube to manage all of these claims individually, there are just some things you can’t leave in the hands of automation, and this is one of them. I’m very much in favor of the belief that Let’s Plays fall under the category of Fair Use, especially considering how personal a game experience can be, so no matter how many times you watch a video or a project, it’s never going to replace the experience of playing the game yourself, so companies like Nintnedo shouldn’t be able to copyright that experience. However, the fact is that they can, and the way the system is now, using the very sound logic of fair use won’t ever work because these companies know they can very easily use the automated system to enforce their wants. It is nice that you can still receive full monetary compensation while disputing a claim, but my worry now is that Nintendo (or other companies) will start counter disputing immediately so this process becomes pointless. So it’s a temporary solution for the automated system, but it doesn’t fix the problem of the system being automated, if that makes sense.

Q: “Which LP is your biggest failure and what did you learn from it?”
A: I don’t think any of my projects are failures necessarily. It all comes down to perspective really, and while there are projects I didn’t really care for, looking back, we all have to start somewhere, and as you said, you can easily learn from your mistakes, ultimately making you better at it in the long run. I think one of my biggest flub-ups was my first playthrough of Kirby’s Dream Land 3, where I played through the game blind, recorded it blind, but then did post-commentary over the blind footage. I don’t feel like that’s a great thing to do, because one of the biggest reasons why people watch blind playthroughs are the initial reactions to certain things in the game. And because I was doing commentary over the footage, I had to fake my reactions to certain things which just made the instances awkward. I’m very glad I redid that game at a future date and time because I think the redone playthrough was so much better. If I had to go with projects that were ultimately failures, leading to me not to finish them or go along with them further, I’d probably have to go with Terraria when I tried to do a Let’s Play of that game. Two episodes in, and I was already regretting the idea because I was taking on too much for a game that requires constant attention, and a game I play in very specific, random instances of time, where I play for like 3 days and don’t want to play it anymore.

Q: “What is your opinion of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon in comparison to the first game?”
A: I think Dark Moon was honestly a very good game, but it definitely lacks something in comparison to the first game and I don’t necessarily know what. For starters, I think the Gamecube controller was the best controller to complement the gameplay style of the first Luigi’s Mansion and while I wouldn’t say the 3DS controls are bad (they aren’t), but sometimes, even the smallest change in control and design can make you yearn for the earlier days. But alas…I thought Dark Moon had some really great ideas that worked for the type of game it was. I just wish it had a larger impression on me, because it did lack in that area.

Q: “Do you wish you had siblings?”
A: I do, yes. While there are definitely perks to being an only child, I was definitely lonely a lot when I was kid, being very dependent on friends coming over for my social interaction.

Q: “Why no SlimKirby Sings videos anymore?”
A: I have not cancelled SlimKirby Sings….I just have not had any good ideas for songs lately. As soon as I come up with something that I feel is good enough, I’ll post one.

Q: “What are your favorite and least favorite portrait ghosts in Luigi’s Mansion?”
A: Favorite ghost is Slim Bankshot because of the name. I also like Vincent Van Gore and and Uncle Grimmly. Least favorite portait ghosts are probably Sir Weston and Jarvis.

Q: “What do you enjoy about Golf?”
A: There are three things I enjoy about golf. For one, I enjoy the peace and quiet because it allows me time alone with my thoughts without any interruptions. Two, I enjoy the mind game aspect of Golf, about how you have to analyze your shot, pick the right club and judge the terrain around you. Three, I like it because it’s a sport that anyone can pick up and play very easily.

Q: “What are your thoughts on newest Fire Emblem games (Awakening and Fates)?”
A: I think they are very solid titles. Awakening was a really good game and it kind of put Fire Emblem back on the map again. Plus, I really enjoyed the way they handled supports and integrated them even more into the game. Fates was all right. Definitely far from a bad game, but it definitely made some interesting choices and introduced some very bizarre (but not in a bad way) mechanics.

Q: “Who are your non-Let’s Player inspirations?”
A: Since he is more of a reviewer than a Let’s Player, can I still say somecallmejohnny? Haha, nah, I’ll try to stick to non-Youtuber answers for this one. Two of my inspirations, who have both passed away very recently, are Satoru Iwata and David Bowie. The former has worked on some of the most amazing video games of all time, and the latter has given me so much music I listen to on a regular basis. As for an alive inspiration, I also draw a lot of inspiration from my mom who is such a hard worker and has given me all that I ever needed to succeed in being the type of person I want to be!

Q: “What’s the loveliest thing you’ve done for your parents wedding anniversary?”
A: I don’t think I’ve done anything for them for their anniversary, as I feel that is mostly their day to spend how they desire and is not really something I should have an impact on. I suppose you could say my greatest gift to them is the gift that keeps on giving, by showing them that their son turned out all right as I try to continue to succeed in my endeavors through life. I do feel my successes are a reflection of the parental enforcement they’ve given me, after all.

Q: “Is there any Nintendo series you haven’t played?”
A: I have not played any of the Chibi Robo games, Custom Robo, or any of those other one-off Nintendo titles that are usually Japan Only.

Q: “What’s your take on DS and GBA games on the Wii U eshop instead of Gamecube games?”
A: While I do like the inclusion of DS and GBA games on the Wii U, I think it is kind of ridiculous that Gamecube is not supported in any way, shape or form. It’s like the only console not supported and I don’t think there is any logical reason for why it isn’t. Given, I don’t work on the hardware, so I can’t know for sure, but I’m sure they’d be able to find some sort of workaround by this point.

Q: “What do you think about the difficulty of some of the Hyrule Warriors Adventure Mode maps?”
A: I think it’s kind of dumb that some enemies hit as hard as they do. Seriously, some enemies hit, and then an entire row of your hearts are gone and I think that’s stupid. It’s fine for those “Devastating Attack” missions, where everything dies in one hit, but doing normal battles in that fashion is really annoying and often leads to SEVERAL restarts. I’m not a fan of that….

Q: “What is your opinion of what Nintendo plans to do at E3 this year?”
A: I think it’s incredibly dumb and it shows that Nintendo has lost touch with what their consumers want. Consumers want to see more games, they want to see what this NX is all about, and they want an actual press conference, but from the sounds of it, they aren’t delivering on any of those promises. It’s great they are showing off the new Zelda, but I do not think Zelda will solve all of their current problems. Nintendo customers are scared because they don’t know what to expect now, after already being concerned about the Wii U’s poor performance in the last year, and they aren’t giving them any confidence that everything will be ok. They really need to re-evaluate what they are doing and get in touch with what their consumers want, otherwise, they will be losing a lot of support.

That’s 20 questions, but, I’ll answer one more because it’s related to the last question and it’s a question that has been bugging me lately.

Q: “What are your thoughts on the new Zelda being delayed AGAIN? Also, talk about why this is an insult to all Zelda fans everywhere”
A: It’s not. Do your research. Nearly all console Zelda games are delayed at some point and are usually delayed for good reason. All Zelda titles are of pretty high quality caliber, even games that I’m personally not the biggest fans of (Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword are not some of my favorites, but that’s mostly personal preference. They are still solid games in their own right), and that’s because they don’t release the game the first chance they get. They wait until they have a high quality game on their hands, THEN they release it. That’s the way it has been since Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword……PRETTY MUCH EVERY ZELDA GAME! It was not surprising at all to see a delay for Zelda U, much like how it’s not surprising to see animals at a petting zoo. Case closed!

Yeah, I posted that last one because I was getting tired of seeing people complain about the game being delayed when it’s not that uncommon at all for a Zelda game to be delayed, and people should know this by now that it is usually for the best. Anyway, that will be it for the questions this time around. Don’t expect the next issue to be up right away, especially since I will be on vacation for the next week, but also to give me some time to get back into the swing of things with all of my projects and Let’s Plays. I hope you enjoyed my answers though and I’ll see you next time!

Question Corner #6 – 5/4/2016

Hello everybody and good evening! It is time for another Question Corner update! Once again I have reached the 20 (ACCEPTABLE) question threshold, which means another update will be posted. It’s been almost 2 months since the last one, but again, I need to stress that it is only because I wasn’t getting enough questions that were acceptable for the next issue to be posted. I use the word “acceptable” very strictly, because once again, some twerp thought it was funny to ask a bunch of stupid questions that were not appropriate for the issue, and then complained about the next issue not being up, blaming my laziness instead of his inability to read the rules, and then proceeded to deny any existence of my heterosexuality, which…..I don’t even see how that’s relevant to begin with, lol.

Oh well, it’s a shame for him that his comments don’t really insult me. If anything, the only individuals he is insulting is the human race in general by sharing the same existence with them. But oh well…fools will be fools. Let’s get to the questions…

…after one quick reminder that if you would like to submit a question of your own, please do so via the Contact form. Just make sure your question is appropriate and if at all possible, try to avoid questions like “Will you Let’s Play this game?” or questions that just in general will yield a very small response (so in other words, “Do you like eating chocolate?” will probably not be yielding too much of an answer compared to “What are your favorite types of dessert items?” just to give an example).

Q: “What’s your opinion of the Final Fantasy series?”
A: Despite only playing completely (and loving) Final Fantasy VII, I think it’s a great series that is doing very well for itself. I’ve seen a few Final Fantasy games and I’ve also taken a few steps into Final Fantasy I as well, and I do like what I see/play, but I’ve never been able to take more steps into actually finishing the games. I need to get back into that because I would love to get more into this series and see more what it has to offer.

Q: “What do you want to see in Mario Party 11?”
A: A complete shift back to the way Mario Party games used to be like. Better side games and side modes. Online play! The traditional style of Mario Party being the main focus! It’s that simple NDCube!

Q: “Would you like to see another game like Super Princess Peach?”
A: Super Princess Peach actually looked pretty entertaining and interesting for what the game is, and I would like to see more experimental platformers like that. They don’t necessarily have to have Peach as the main character, but the style of game it is was pretty interesting for it’s time and I’d like to see more of that.

Q: “Do you have any idea when you will take your first steps into LPing Grand Theft Auto games?”
A: I would really like to, because as I’ve stated multiple times, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City may be one of my favorite games of all-time, or at the absolute least, my favorite PS2 game. I dunno though…the timing has just never felt right for doing those games. I have GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, Vice City Stories and GTA IV, so I have a number of titles to do…I just don’t know where exactly to begin or when. I’m sure I’ll get to it at some point though.

Q: “Are there any games you want a sequel to (aside from Hit & Run)?”
A: After thinking long and hard about this…the only game I can really think of is Kirby’s Air Ride. I thought the Air Ride mode (alongside City Trial) had a great formula to start with and it would be cool to see another game like it again.

Q: “Why does it say you joined Youtube in 2006 when you declare 2007 as your Youtube start?”
A: That’s pretty simple…I created a Youtube account in 2006 for watching videos and in 2007 I decided to start actually making videos. It seems like a simple answer for this question, opposed to the more complicated “a rip in the space time continuum happened” answer you were probably looking for, but I do get this question a lot and understandably so. It does say I started in 2006, and I always say otherwise that it was 2007. In terms of creating videos, 2007 is the only answer I will care about.

Q: “What did you think about the Kirby’s Dream Collection for the Nintendo Wii”
A: I actually thought it was a really sweet collection. Dream Land 1, 2, 3, Adventure, Super Star AND Kirby 64 for retail price? That’s a pretty sweet deal and I love the music CD that came with it as well. I think it would have been cool to include some other non-platforming games as well (like Avalanche and Dream Course), but I suppose you can’t be too picky about it.

Q: “Since you talk a lot about it, what is your history with Asperger’s Syndrome?”
A: I am not an Aspie myself, but I have a lot of friends who are and they are honestly some of the most intelligent, down to earth and wonderful people I have ever met. MegaFreak400, who was like one of my closest friends from the CrystalStarStudio group, is an Aspie and he is one of my favorite people to talk to just because I really value his opinion and he is someone who I feel like I can have a legitimate argument and discussion with, without feeling like I need to punch him afterwards. He was just someone who I really connected with. FiyahKitteh, who I dated for a few years, was also on the Aspergers spectrum and she is someone whom I really admire in wisdom, creativity and spirit, and still do to this day. After all of these meetings, and hearing stories from my parents and other family members, who do a lot of work with kids in their schools that also have Aspergers, I’ve just grown kind of an understanding and respect for those who have it because they are so misunderstood and they get treated like they are freaks, when in reality, are just like everyone else, just with slightly different reactions and interactions.

Q: “What would you love to see in a 3rd Banjo Kazooie game if they ever made one?”
A: They did make one…it’s called Nuts & Bolts. Now, since I just insulted every Banjo-Kazooie fan by saying that, please allow me to explain. I’m only teasing you because of the way you asked your question, because like it or not, another big-time Banjo Kazooie game was made after the original duology on the N64. It’s definitely not the game everyone wanted, and I’d say it’s a Banjo game in the same way that Kirby’s Epic Yarn is a Kirby game. It does have Kirby as the main character, but it’s quite obvious that he was creatively crafted into a game that was already a developed idea. As far as Nuts and Bolts goes, Rare was working on this idea and people wanted Banjo, so they included Banjo into the idea. That’s more than likely what happened anyway. Obviously I don’t work for Rare so I can’t confirm, but that seems to be the most likely scenario. Also, don’t forget about the Game Boy Advance Banjo game either. That game was a pretty neat distraction considering. Anyway, as for a new “true” Banjo game, I would be very interested to see a return to the classic style of game that made Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie what it is; a collect-a-thon platformer with cool moves, items, quirky characters, fun minigames and challenges. Really, I don’t think it’s too much to ask for Rare to go back to their Banjo roots.

Q: “Are there any companies that have the potential to bring Mario Party back to its roots?”
A: Honestly, and this is what really kills me, I think NdCube is more than capable of making a good classic Mario Party game, but they are so incredibly stuck on this mindset that the series is fine the way it is. And honestly, it’s not! They’ve shown that they are capable of making good minigames, and there are visions of a good board mode in Amiibo Party (as basic and bare bones and boring as it is), but they are just not putting two and two together, nor are they listening to their fans either. They literally have no consumer research department and that is a problem they could so easily remedy. It’s so frustrating!

Q: “Have you thought about doing other Top 10s?”
A: The questioner asked in regards to Simpsons episodes, but I’ll make the question a bit more general. Yeah, I have thought about doing other Top 10s, and for something like The Simpsons, which I have a great fondness for, topics of that nature are pretty likely to get covered in some way. My only problem is that making a list video does take a lot of time and a lot of work. Sometimes even moreso than an actual Let’s Play episode. You need to record footage, write narration, record narration, listen to narration over and over again, put it all together and watch through it multiple times to make sure it’s right. There’s a lot of stuff that’s required for a Top 10. I seriously don’t know how rabbidluigi does a list every week on his channel. But yeah, I have thought about some things and if I get some time, maybe I’ll try my hand at it! I know one topic I was considering at one point was a Top 10 favorite Donkey Kong Country levels video.

Q: “What is your opinion of the Grand Theft Auto series?”
A: I love the Grand Theft Auto series. Now, before people assume it’s because it’s the violence, committing crimes and sleeping with prostitutes side of GTA…you’re wrong! What I love is the sandbox atmosphere of the series. The fact that you are given a city to just explore and do what you want. You can play through the story, you can play fun minigames and side missions, or you can just go crazy, buy a bunch of weapons and cause havoc in town if you wanted to. The world is quite literally your oyster, and depending on what game you are playing, you have a lot of different options as well. Hell, even just doing the taxi missions while listening to the radio can be fun. It’s such a great series and why I love sandbox-style games.

Q: “What are your expectations of Nintendo’s E3 for this year and the NX?”
A: Honestly, I don’t have any expectations, but I feel like going into an E3 conference with expectations only means you will have expectations to potentially lose. While, if you go into a conference not expecting anything, you have the possibility of being completely swept off your feet, which is something I want to happen during an E3 conference. Honestly though, I would love for Nintendo to have a conference that would blow everything out of the water because right now, I feel like Nintendo desperately needs it. Not that I think Nintendo is doing bad, persay. I do enjoy the games Nintendo has been putting out and overall, the Wii U has given me more enjoyment than lack of enjoyment. I just feel like public opinion with Nintendo is already on pretty shaky ground and it needs to do something to get the faith back. I also think the NX reveal/announcement needs to be done right because that could be another deal maker or breaker for Nintendo. What would I love to see? Well, I would love to see a new Mario game, potentially a 3D Mario game.

Q: “What did you make of the death of Satoru Iwata?”
A: I was incredibly sad by the passing of Mr. Iwata. He’s been involved in so many games I’ve played and cherished from my childhood days and it’s sad to know that such a great man will no longer be involved in Nintendo Directs, conferences or game development anymore. However, one thing we must remember is that his spirit lives on in the games he has made for us, and we will never forget those gifts he had a hand in making for us gamers!

Q: “With your name being ‘Robert,’ what name do you generally go by or prefer going by (Robert, Rob, Bob, Robbie)?
A: I prefer Rob. It’s short and to the point, just the way I like it. For official stuff, like signing documents, or when I was turning in homework assignments during my college days, I use Robert because it feels more official and appropriate. I used to go by Robbie when I was younger, but I don’t really like that version of my name anymore. As far as “Bob” is concerned, that’s what we called my grandfather (shared the same name), so I try to avoid that name out of respect. My father is also named Robert, but my family just calls him by his middle name anyway.

Q: “What was your opinion of The Simpsons Game playthrough that you did a few years ago?”
A: I thought it was fine. Honestly though, I am a little bitter about that playthrough due to the fact that the Wii version (the version I played) had an inferior amount of content compared to the Xbox360 and PS3 versions, which is really dumb. May want to redo that playthrough sometime in the future, but not anytime soon.

Q: “What would be your dream vacation?”
A: Honestly, the best kind of vacations are when they are with my lovely online friends of the PuddlePlainsHD community and other good online friends. I always have a blast at Magfest whenever I go to it and it would be cool to have a longer period of time to hang out with the people I adore. We really should consider doing a get-together sometime when a convention isn’t going on just to see what it’s like. Honestly, doesn’t even matter where we go, as long as there is a place where Odinspack and I can go hit the gym and some nice relaxing time where we can sit back and game the night away!

Q: “What are your favorite animals?”
A: My favorite animal would probably be a penguin. They are very adaptable to cold weather, much like I am, and they always waddle around like I do. I also like lions, wolves and foxes.

Q: “If you only had 12 months to live, what would you try to accomplish?”
A: I would probably spend the first month relaxing and trying to come to terms with the time I have left, figuring out what things I would like to do before I leave. And then just trying to spend the rest of my time doing stuff I either really love or things I have always wanted to do. I don’t necessarily want to go into any major details, because that’s a very personal topic for me, but yeah, just making the most of what I have left. Would also try to visit people who I have always wanted to meet but never had a chance to.

Q: “Who designed the banner on your website?”
A: That was actually designed by me with help from FiyahKitteh. Her instruction with Photoshop is what allowed me to create that, but aside from the instruction, it was all done by my hand.

Question Corner #5 – 3/18/2016

I feel I must apologize for the lateness of this entry. Not because I didn’t do it, because this has been ready for weeks now, but for some reason, it just kinda slipped my mind that I hadn’t put this up yet. It’s like going out of your way to make a really good pasta for dinner, but then just forgetting that you made it and you accidentally put a pizza in the oven instead. Entry #6, which might be ready soon, should be up sooner than this one because of this random delay.

Before we get started, as usual….if you would like to submit a questions of your own, go to the Contact page and send me a question for the Question Corner. Questions only focusing on “What LP will I do?” or “When will you LP this game?” will not be answered, so do not make a habit of asking those questions. And of course, please leave out questions that I’ve answered before and anything personal that doesn’t really belong on this website. Thank you!

Q: “What was your childhood dream job?”
A: Honestly, just making a job out of video games in some fashion would have been satisfying for my younger self. Whether it was making them, playtesting them, or even what I’m doing know with making videos on Youtube; anything that would put me in the field would have been just dandy.

Q: “What is your least favorite Let’s Play that you have done?”
A: Aside from the really bad camcorder projects of the old days, probably my blind run of Kirby’s Dream Land 3. Mario Party 3 is also pretty bad, but that KDL3 playthrough was just…ugh! I just get a bad feeling from even thinking about that one. Just the fact that it was a blind run, with post commentary just made it seem like it was very unprofessionally done. I’m glad I went back to redo that project at a later date and time, because the redone project was a lot better. Still wasn’t super crazy about the game, but I would have much rather had that new playthrough than the old one.

Q: “What are your 10 favorite characters from the Simpsons?”
A: Homer Simpson, Ralph Wiggum, Troy McClure, Sideshow Bob, Lenny Leonard, Carl Carlson, Professor Frink, Fat Tony, Dr. Hibbert, Rainer Wolfcastle. I think that’s 10! Don’t feel like going into too much detail though, so I’ll just say this; The Simpsons is a great show with many great characters.

Q: ”What would you do if you won the lottery?”
A: First I would pay off ALL of my student loans so I would never have to worry about those ever again. Then, honestly, I would just save a lot of the money just in case I would ever need it for a rainy day. You never know when it could come in handy.

Q: “What did you think of Futurama being cancelled again?”
A: Honestly, I don’t have much of a problem with it this time. This time they were able to end it with a proper finale, they got two pretty good quality seasons out of it being on Comedy Central, and I feel like it has met its goal this time. I’m personally someone who doesn’t mind the newer seasons of The Simpsons, but I do agree that the quality is much lower than what it used to be, and I think if Futurama tried to squeeze a few more seasons out, it would have started going down the same path.

Q: “What is your opinion on Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts?”
A: I’ve personally never played it, so I can’t give you an actual opinion of the game, but based on what I have seen of it, it’s disappointing because it doesn’t really deliver on what made Banjo such a great series (at that point). Whether the actual game itself is good or not, it’s not what many faithful BK followers bought an Xbox for, and it wasn’t really what Microsoft was paying for when they initially bought Rare. Think of it this way…you bought a steak, but instead were given a salad. Maybe the salad is really good, but it’s not what you paid for. That’s what many people seem to have an issue with in regards to Nuts & Bolts. Given, a part of that might be on the consumers and not Rare, because it was pretty clear that Nuts and Bolts was not going to be that new Banjo game everyone wanted, but I feel like the development was not necessarily denying that false identity either. Or rather, they didn’t do enough.

Q: “How far are you from getting a 3DS Capture Card and where can I donate to the cause?”
A: I’m still a few hundred away, but I’ve collected a lot of really great donations from the Star Warrior community so far! If you would like to donate, here is a link to my donation page!

Q: “Have you considered getting into the Mario Party development team?”
A: If it were that easy, then yes, I would totally get on board and make changes and get that series back on the right track. I really don’t see how NDCube continues to screw up on these games because the Mario Party fanbase has been quite vocal about what they want and what they don’t want. Mairo Party 10 was a huge oversight on their part and they could have made an excellent game if they actually did their research.

Q: “On a scale of 1-10, how cute is Kirby?”
A: Kirby gets a freaking 10, no questions asked!

Q: “For your best of/worst of Mario Party series, did you get the ideas for the skits from the games themselves?”
A: Pretty much, at least for Mario Party 5 and onward. I didn’t really have any themes in mind for MP1-MP4. I was just winging it for Mario Party 1, and my skits for Mario Party 2 were based on the viewer response from the skits in the first set of videos. Mario Party 3 was just an experiment I wanted to try on having a guest on board. Mario Party 4 was kind of relevant since there was the mini-mushroom and everything, but really I just didn’t want to spend much time on the skits that time. Everything else tried to feature something from the games I was covering, like the dreams of MP5, the night/day of MP6, the vacation of MP7, the candy of MP8 and driving around in a car for MP9.

Q: “What is your favorite food?”
A: I am a sucker for Italian food, whether it’s pizza or pasta (which explains the pasta scenario I made at the beginning of this post). I am also a big fan of seafood too. There’s an amazing seafood restaurant in my area that we go to for my birthday every year and I look forward to that day every year because of that. Those are definitely my favorites though.

Q: “What are your thoughts on the passing of David Bowie?”
A: Truly heartbreaking! David Bowie is one of my all-time favorite musicians and musical artists and his death hit me pretty hard. I used to listen to his music for hours during my teenage years and it got me through some pretty tough times.

Q: “Do you plan to use face-cam on any of your videos?”
A: If it’s a project/game that would be enhanced by the usage of a face cam, like Slender, Five Nights At Freddys, or many of the other reactionary horror games out there, I’ll consider the idea, but it’s more than likely going to be a straight “No!” I don’t really think facecam adds anything to a Let’s Play and those who “think” it does, only think that way because multi-channel networks tell them that it does, or just think “Well, pewdiepie does it,” so it’s automatically a successful idea that needs to be incorporated (which is also something MCNs will tell you). I mean, I suppose it could add a bit of a personal touch to some videos, but they are mostly used successfully when it’s a game like Amnesia (the horror game, not the dating sim) or Outlast, where Pewdiepie is screaming his head off and the viewers have a visual aid to laugh alongside with. That’s the only time it really works, in my opinion.

Q: “Have you considered stopping Youtube altogether?
A: In terms of just randomly thinking “You know what, I don’t want to do this anymore,” no, I have never really considered it. However, in terms of thinking “Well, there might come a day where I will need to put this aside for more important things,” yeah, I wonder about that all the time. Hell, there are recent days where I have to start thinking about that stuff. As far as what I’m doing about it, I’m just taking it one day at a time and if I need to stop, I will. However, it’s going to be really hard to get me to stop completely. I’m sure I’ll find a way back to this somehow.

Q: “What are your thoughts on the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games?”
A: I think the games are really good in their own right. I would rather play the handheld adventure games because that is where the series shines most, but the MD games are very interesting spinoff titles. I’ve never been able to completely get through a Mystery Dungeon game, but I think it’s because I always approach the games in the worst way possible. Like for RetroAchievements where I expect that I need to do every single sidequest and optional mission in order to get everything. I should honestly just play through the games.

Q: “What kind of movies do you like to watch?”
A: I’m not a very big movie guy, but only in terms of going out to see them. These days I often have a lot more fun watching movies with friends on Netflix, or having a group movie night with my Skype friends. I can watch or pretty much get into anything as long as it’s not super long or boring to the point where I get distracted by the piece of dust in the corner of the room. Some of my favorite movies though are classic movies like Forrest Gump and The Right Stuff, but I’ve gotten into a number of movies very easily. I am also a fan of classic Adam Sandler movies like Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison.

Q: What kind of books do you like to read?”
A: Someone was really, really driven on getting the very basic and broad questions out of the way because I think he asked the previous question too. Anyway, I’m not really that much of a reader. I think it’s because I get distracted really easily and sometimes if I’m not feeling it, I start slurring words together in my head to get through the page/chapter faster. Recently I read through the Hunger Games trilogy and thoroughly enjoyed it, although I only got interested after watching the first movie. I think my favorite book though is “The Three Kingdoms” by Luo Guanzong, which is a novelization of the “Three Kingdoms” saga, which is the same saga the Dynasty Warriors games are based off of as well, so I had a lot of fun reading through that because I had some prior knowledge through the games. That’s all I can really say about books though.

Q: “What was your college experience like?”
A: My college experience was…decent. I wouldn’t say it was a great experience because I kind of felt like the things I did learn were great tools for the real world and I learned a lot about myself as well. However, the things I did go to college for, and by extension, the things I paid thousands and thousands of dollars for, really weren’t that worth it for me. I don’t feel like my professors (most of them anyway) were really that great and a lot of things I did learn were things I had to self-teach myself and it’s debatable if I even left the institution with all the knowledge I did need (at least in relation to what I was studying). Some of the best things I learned were “how to keep a solid budget,” “how to properly schedule your tasks,” “how to keep your living space in order,” “how to deal with (bad) roommates,” and let’s face it, I did all of that stuff while also balancing a Youtube channel that was starting to become moderately successful during those times. Those are all good things, but not things I went to college for. So at the end of the day, college ended up feeling like a fifty-thousand dollar expense that I will never get back and I’ll be paying that expense for the next 10 or 20 years. Not to mention that I don’t really feel that prepared for the real world either. Maybe I just had a bad major choice for my particular institution (I went to Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana), so I’m not going to say college is not good, because there is definitely some value to it. It’s just not worth the thousands and thousands of dollars you have to pay for it, especially considering that college isn’t for everyone.

Q: “Have there been games that you didn’t like as much, but after Let’s Playing them, you liked more? And the reverse?”
A: I’m glad I got this question during the Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze playthrough because that game is slowly becoming the perfect model for your question. I was not really into the game that much during my first playthrough, but now, after playing through about 60% of the game for the LP project, I’m finding that I’m enjoying it a whole lot more and it’s slowly becoming one of my favorite Wii U games as a result. Mario Party 7 was another game that I wasn’t too crazy about either, but I liked it a lot more after the LP as well. As for games I found I didn’t like as much after finishing….it’s hard to say. I don’t feel like there have been any games I’ve just not liked anymore after LPing them. Super Mario Sunshine was kind of demoralizing, but that was moreso because I went through the game 100% three times in a span of like 2 or 3 months, not really because of the game or project itself. Mario Party 10 was also a disappointment, but I was already kind of not digging that game anyway.

Q: “Should Masahiro Sakurai be replaced as the main developer of Smash Bros?”
A: No, definitely not. I don’t like some of his decisions, and I think he needs to stop giving ‘so much’ special treatment to his own series, but like it or not, he is a good developer. I just think he needs a little direction in some cases. But as far as being the main developer, I don’t think that should be taken away from him and he doesn’t deserve to be “Kojima’d” for lack of a better term.

Well, that’s it for another Question Corner! Thanks to everyone for the questions and I will see you guys next time!

Question Corner #4 – 1/26/2016

I think it’s time for a new batch of questions, don’t you? I find it kind of ironic how I’m starting an issue of Question Corner (the series I made for you guys to ask ME questions) with a question for you guys, so maybe I should get right into it.

There are a few things I will say before we get started though, because this has been lost in translation apparently, but in regards to WHEN I post these issues; I will only post an issue of Question Corner when I have at least twenty “accepted” questions. This means the questions have to meet the guidelines I established on the Question Corner page, in the first issue and every issue since then, for it to be accepted. This means stuff like really in-depth personal questions (like where I live and what my mom looks like), and questions that have been asked before, will not be answered in this series. Also, questions about “Will I do a Let’s Play for this game?” or “Have you played this game?” will be posted in moderation, but don’t make it a habit to ask those questions, because most of the time my answers will be “I dunno, haven’t played it yet” or “I will LP it soon.” I may have something more to say about it if it’s relevant, but please don’t try to actively hunt for what games that will apply to. Just try to think of something else.

I also had a bit of an issue this time with a troll who wanted me to post the next episode of this series, and started insulting me, my parents, and my ex-girlfriend and people with Aspergers (for some reason) because he couldn’t wait any longer, but at that point, I didn’t even have ten questions yet, well under my twenty question requirement. I understand people might not have a lot of faith in me because there was such a huge hiatus between updates last year, but I am trying a lot harder this year, and every time I’ve had a new update for you guys, I’ve gotten it to you within the week. I’m not saying anybody is as bad as “Mr. Impatient” was here (the guy I was referring to in this paragraph (funnily enough, he even named himself that)), but please understand all of this and take all of that into consideration before sending me a message about it. Chances are, I probably just don’t have enough questions yet.

Anyway, let’s finally get started here…

Q: “How did you decide on your Twitch moderation staff?”
A: I figured that out in a very simple way; I picked people who I knew and trusted to be moderators from my past and people who I knew would be at my streams and would take action if things ever got out of control. That’s really all there is to it. Some of them are old friends of CrystalStarStudio, some are from PuddlePlainsHD, and some are people who I met along the way.

Q: “If you could change a shiny Pokemon, which one would it be?”
A: I’m assuming this is asking “Is there a shiny Pokemon you don’t like?” If so, I’m not a big fan of Poliwrath’s shiny form because I’m not a big fan of the color green. And while on the subject, sometimes I feel like Poliwag and Poliwhirl’s shiny color is also not very noticeable unless you have side-to-side comparisons. For being my favorite Pokemon family….I just don’t like their shiny colors that much. Politoed has a decent color I suppose, but I don’t like Politoed that much. If the question is asking, “If you could change into a Shiny Pokemon, which one would it be?” I guess I would still pick Poliwhirl because I love Poliwhirl and I could refer to myself as “shiny.” =P

Q: “What is your opinion about Yoshi’s Wooly World? Did Nintendo finally made a decent Yoshi game?”
A: Yoshi’s Wooly World is a FANTASTIC game and Good Feel struck gold once again with another “yarn” game. And yes, this has been the first very good Yoshi game since, in my opinion, the original Yoshi’s Island back on the SNES (yeah, not a big fan of Yoshi’s Story). It finally got the balance right with both, being fun and being challenging (something that’s been a challenge for the other Yoshi’s Island developers for a long time now). Also, the game is absolutely beautiful and works with the yarn-theme tremendously well!

Q: “What project (that you’ve done) is a perfect representation of who ‘SlimKirby’ is?
A: That’s a very good question and a question I cannot answer easily. I guess if I had to pick a project, or series of projects, I’d probably have to go with the Mario Party video series. I think the series shows what a dorky individual I am, it shows how strategic I can get (or try to get) with some of the moves I try to make in order to win a game, it shows how easily I mess things up and screw myself over…..the list just goes on and on. It just kind of describes who I am….someone who can get excited and full of energy playing a party game with CPU players.

Q: “Will you ever LP Quest 64?”
A: I knew that question would be coming sometime. Yes, at some point I will be LPing Quest 64. But I have no desire to say when or even figure out when I’m going to do it. I guess you will just have to wait for it to happen.

Q: “What games are you looking forward to?”
A: As of right now, probably Fire Emblem Fates because I’ve been on such a Fire Emblem kick lately. I’m also looking forward to Hyrule Warriors Legends. Also, I guess the new Zelda game has been a bit intriguing as well.

Q: “Will you ever do 60fps videos? Also when will you have the most optimal/best video quality?”
A: Lumping this question with a question I feel I get all the time from people. Anyway, I’m going to be very blunt and honest right now. All of those things…..I don’t really give a care about. I don’t feel like they add much at all to a Youtube video, and those that think they do, and that all videos NEED to be “Super HD High Quality to the Point Where my Computer Screen is All Shiny and Sparkly,” they need to take a chill pill and realize that it’s purely a cosmetic effect, and in most cases, it’s hardly even noticeable and it’s completely unnecessary.  I understand it can improve the quality and make some games (particularly modern games) look a whole lot better, but even then, I whole-heartedly believe that it’s nothing I need to concern myself with, and nothing people need to be concerned with as well. Most of my life, I had to play video games on a really small screen that would often get fuzzy from time to time, and I would often have to adjust and readjust the video-input cables. If I could deal with that for several years, I think people can tolerate some Youtube videos not being at the best of quality. At least you can see and tell what is happening. As for the 60fps thing, probably not related to the video quality thing, but even then, I’d still classify that as another purely cosmetic change.

Q: “Do you have any brothers or sisters?”
A: The only brothers and sisters I have are from other mams and misters. In other words, no, I have no brothers or sisters. I’m an only child and my parents are still together and were never married to anyone else, so there are no siblings to speak of. It is kind of a shame though, because I do feel like having a sibling would have probably helped my social life out a lot, but alas, these were the cards I were dealt.

Q: “Would you want to see a sequel of The Simpsons: Hit & Run?”
A: FOR THE LOVE THAT IS ALL GOOD AND HOLY, YES, I WOULD! Seriously, a sequel to this game NEEDS to happen. It’s the best Simpsons game, hands-down, and I was not very satisfied with “The Simpsons Game,” as a game to fill in the void. Shoutouts to Donut Mod, a team that is currently working on making more Hit & Run content, using the original game engine as a base, but a true sequel would be freaking amazing!

Q: “What were the cause of copyright strikes on your channel?”
A: I’ve gotten two copyright strikes (both removed now) in my channel’s history. The first one was a very notorious tale involving Scholastic Inc., who copyright claimed a Simpsons Hit & Run episode titled “The Magic School Bus of Destruction” for including a “Magic School Bus” reference in the title. However, this claim ASSUMED that I had content from the Magic School Bus TV show in my video, which I did not. After disputing this claim, it was removed and I never had to deal with Scholastic again. My second strike was on a Guitar Hero video which I removed LONG before I got the strike. I had Guitar Hero videos on my channel before, but when I saw that those videos were being taken down, I removed any traces of these videos from my channel. However, months later, Youtube strangely decided to give me a copyright strike anyway because “traces” of the video (rather, the link of where the video used to be) were still traceable. Because of this, I had to spend a month taking care of it and proving that I was abiding by the rules. Thankfully, it worked, and my channel is in good standing!

Q: “Do you have an income outside of Youtube?”
A: As of right now, I do not, but that will probably be a thing in a few months because I really, really need to get a job right now so I can continue to finance my channel.

Q: “Will you do a “Day in the Life of SlimKirby” video?”
A: I dunno, do you want to see me sitting at my computer editing videos all day? Haha, ok, my life is a little more interesting than just that. Truth be told, I have thought about it, and I think that would be an interesting video special. I just need a better camera than my laptop’s built-in webcam.

Q: “What is your job?”
A: Well, right now, Youtube is kind of my job. I earn money through ad revenue, and have been for about 5 years now. However, I am looking into getting a data processing and/or data entry job, or something of that nature. Really kind of open to a bunch of possibilities at the moment.

Q: “What is your opinion of The Sims games and have you played them?”
A: I played the first game to death and have always had an interest in the series. I got Sims 3 awhile back, but I haven’t played too much of it, although I did enjoy what I played. I really want to go back to the first game, but I can’t find my game anymore.

Q: “What is your opinion of gay rights and homosexuality?”
A: Kind of a random and very personal question to get on a gaming-related website, but I have very strong beliefs on this topic, so I’ll let this one pass through. In this world, we are all equals, regardless of who we are, what we look like, and how we live our lives. A homosexual man or woman should have the same rights as anyone else and should not be judged or analyzed any differently because of their personal preferences. The sooner we all accept that, the better off this world will be, and the more people try to change that, the further behind we’ll be. I have plenty of gay and bisexual friends and they are great people…hell, they are probably better people than many of my heterosexual friends, so it just goes to show you that people with different lifestyles aren’t hurting anybody…if anything they are making the world a better place because they know what it means to be civil and accepting of others.

Q: “Do you consider Sue Pea from Luigi’s Mansion to be Neville and Lydia’s daughter?”
A: For a while, I thought she was, but I find it kind of weird that she’s located on the other side of the mansion while the entire family sans her is in that one hallway. You would think she would be a bit closer than that, right? Well, until we get more Luigi’s Mansion lore, I guess that will always be an unknown.

Q: “Do you have any other talents aside from Let’s Playing?”
A: I don’t think I have any sort of special skills or talents, just hobbies (which I would technically include “Let’s Playing” into that pool as well). I like golf, math, computers, singing….but I can’t really say any of those would be a talent or skill I excel in.

Q: “What do you hope for in Pokemon generation #7?”
A: I actually kind of hope Mega evolution is nerfed quite a bit and it becomes more of a visual change, or at the absolute least, a form change, where the Pokemon’s stats aren’t altered, just the typing and maybe the kind of moves it can learn. I think Mega evolution just kind of imbalances the playing field because so many Pokemon that are already pretty strong, have mega evolutions, and even Pokemon that don’t evolve normally (like Audino and Kangaskhan), while some have mega evolutions, others don’t, and the ones that don’t are even less viable now. But I don’t know a whole lot about Pokemon competitive play, so I can’t really speak from experience. That’s just the way it seems lately. I just want the field to be more balanced. Also, more original Pokemon would be nice, but only if they don’t sink as low as to make random household objects into Pokemon (you know…like a pair of car keys). Also, make evolutionary stones and items more accessible to get.

Q: “Do you wish Bart’s twin-brother Hugo (a non-canon Halloween character in The Simpsons) was used more in the series?”
A: No, because we saw Bart being born (or at least the scene around that) in a flashback episode way before that Halloween episode, so Hugo would completely mess up the story. There’s a reason why everyone hates Skinner’s “Armin Tamzarian” backstory because it completely conflicts with what we know and love about the character. I feel like expanding more on Hugo would do the same thing, especially after twenty-five years of the show being on the air, Bart being the main character (and one of the most important characters), and the idea just kind of being silly in the first place. “The Principal and the Pauper,” the episode that revealed Skinner to be a fraud, was one of the most hated episodes because it tried to change what we know and love about a character after 9 years of that character making a solid impression. That plot basically said, “forget everything you learned, he’s not who you think” and then at the end decided, “actually….this new change is stupid, let’s go back to the way things were.” I understand that was the point of the episode; making satire out of the fact that some shows will do an extreme change to boost ratings, but it still didn’t really work, because now when people see Skinner, there will always be a small part of that plot reminding us what could have been. Hugo would do the same thing, honestly.

Q: “What idea made you want to start your Youtube channel?”
A: Just the idea of being able to make my own walkthroughs for people without having to write a whole bunch. Then as time went on, I decided to go with a more personal route with Let’s Plays….and the rest of that story pretty much writes itself.

Ok, that was actually a pretty lengthy episode for only twenty questions, but good news is that I do have some leftover questions that I’ll use for next issue, so maybe the wait won’t take two months this time. If it does though, just remember that it’s only because I haven’t gotten enough questions yet. Also, if you would like to ask a question, make sure you submit it via the Contact Form and not through the comments section of this page, comments in my videos, or through Twitter. I will only answer questions for Question Corner through the Contact Form, so please keep that in mind.
