Wii Party

Wii Party

Game: Wii Party
Start Date: November 5th, 2011
Runtime: 8 hours

With the future of Mario Party uncertain, Nintendo decided to take the reigns and develop their own Mario Party as part of the “Wii” series (Wii Sports, Wii Play, etc.). Mario and his friends are no longer here, but don’t count this party out just yet, as there are a variety of different games and mini-games to try!

Mario Party 9 was only “announced” at this point, so in order to keep the party going, I decided to give Wii Party a try! Although I feel the final results weren’t as great as Mario Party had been in the past, I did feel like this was a very enjoyable project to work on, and more importantly, made the game stand out on its own, which is what mattered to me most of all! For those who consider this game a cheap knock-off of Mario Party, please flush those thoughts down the toilet, because even Wii Party has a charm of its own!

Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels

So it turns out the American version of Super Mario Bros. 2 wasn’t the same as what the Japanese got, claiming that the original Super Mario Bros. 2 was way too hard for American gamers. Thankfully though, this gaming experience wasn’t lost on us, as Nintendo of America was nice enough to include it for the very first time in the Super Mario All-Stars cartridge. Now, let’s see what this game REALLY has in store for us! =D

This is a project done in conjunction with three other games as part of the Super Mario All-Stars Let’s Play. I had just finished Radiant Dawn at this point and wanted to take it easy before I got back into any major games, so I figured a run-through all of the classic NES Mario games was in order!

So we had the game that started it all, and the two games involved in the sequel controversy, but now we have the one that everyone remembers! Super Mario Bros. 3 was a phenomenal success for gamers living in the NES era, with the inclusion of such classic levels, power-ups, enemies, and some of the best 2D platforming you will ever find in gaming history! Can you bring Mario all the way to World 8 and rescue the princess again? You better hit that start button and find out!

What happens when Mario and his friends enter a world of dreams…in conjunction with Nintendo of America wanting to give their customers an easier game than the actual Super Mario Bros. 2? This is the very satisfying result. Welcome to the world of Subcon, a very magical place filled with a brand new adventure in front of our eyes!

Behold, Mario’s first platforming adventure in all of its glory! This is the first game where a plumber from the Mushroom Kingdom goes on a quest to rescue Princess Toadstool from the evil, King of the Koopas, Bowser! Hope you are ready for some classic nostalgia.

Mischief Makers

Mischief Makers

Game: Mischief Makers
Start Date: July 25th, 2011
Runtime: 4 hours
Videos: 14

The Nintendo 64 was home to some very unique and whacky games, one of which being Mischief Makers. This is the story of how a butt-kicking fembot named Marina goes to the Planet Clancer and finds that things aren’t as they seem. And now Marina will have to grab and toss her enemies, use a variety of weapons, and maybe even shake this world upside-down to figure out what is going on.

This was another game that I discovered through a friend (the same friend who introduced me to Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon), and it was another one of those games that had a really unique and interesting charm to it, so much that I couldn’t resist to not do a playthrough of it. Getting all the gold gems is tough, but it’s definitely worth it to see all the humor this game has to offer.

Dark Matter is once again on the loose, and it’s up to Kirby and his friends to make things right and banish the evil sludge back to where it came from. In order to accomplish this, Kirby must travel to several other planets and use some very new and unique powers, including a new mechanic of combining copy abilities!

I was smack dab in the middle of my Radiant Dawn playthrough at the time and wanted to make sure that I had a decent buffer in between the mass quantities of videos I was uploading for the Radiant Dawn project. I turned to Kirby, particularly my 2nd favorite Kirby game, for a bit of assistance, because everybody loves that Kirby guy! I do feel like this playthrough got kind of drowned out by Radiant Dawn, which is a shame because I thought this honestly went pretty well considering.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Game: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Runtime: 47 hours

A few years have passed since the events that concluded the story of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, and trouble is once again brewing across the land of Tellius! Begnion is taking things a bit too far in what is left of Daein, Queen Elincia is struggling to get control of her nation during its restoration, and the hero of the Mad King’s War seems to be missing. Will all of these concerns be resolved in Radiant Dawn? I guess we will have to wait and see.

At this point, I felt like the running joke of me never playing Radiant Dawn should finally come to an end, because I did always have some intention of playing it…I just wasn’t ready for it at the time. This project was quite the undertaking though, with a huge library of videos (most of which in the 30+ minute range), and a lot of content to cover. I was dedicated however, and I feel at the end of the day, this was one of the biggest milestones ever achieved on my channel.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

Game: Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest
Start Date: May 10th, 2011
Runtime: 4 hours

Donkey Kong has been captured by the vicious Captain K. Rool (any relation to King K. Rool? I have no idea, but I like to think they are the same person), and Diddy Kong is now the monkey in the spotlight, this time joined by his new partner and girlfriend, Dixie Kong! This dynamic duo will now test their limits in this all new quest of monkey madness, and pirate-themed scenarios!

Like I established the previous year, I wanted to cover the entire Donkey Kong Country series, and at this point, the critically acclaimed sequel was next on the list. This game is definitely my favorite of the trilogy (although I do love all 3), so I was quite amped to take this one to the end!

Pikmin

Pikmin

Game: Pikmin
Start Date: April 18th, 2011
Runtime: 5 hours
Videos: 18

Captain Olimar, an intergalactic space traveler and family man, was taking his spaceship out for another leisurely ride, but along the way he came face-to-face with a deadly meteor that sends his spaceship crashing down to an unknown planet. When he comes to, Olimar realizes that he needs to repair his spaceship in a very strict time limit, otherwise he will fall victim to the planet’s deadly creatures and obnoxious, atmospheric gases! He is not alone however, as he will gain the help of the planet’s friendly plant creatures, known as Pikmin, to help him accomplish this nearly impossible feat!

This was the seventh “replay” project I did on my channel, as I had done some videos for the game at a prior date, but due to the poorer quality of the project, I decided to redo the project with a modern spin. The videos for the old project are still available for viewing on my channel, but there is no longer a playlist associated with that version.

Like Donkey Kong 64, Pikmin was another game that I felt I needed to redo and make it better, as the game itself is truly a work of art. Like most of my replay projects, this decision was met with nothing but affirmation and positive responses. Not only that, but I feel like my playthrough was done in a very excellent manner, being one of my best runthroughs that I’ve ever done! I also covered the Challenge Mode as well, something absent from the original project.
