SSR #29: “Bart’s Dog Gets An F”

Introduction:
Santa’s Little Helper, the Simpson family mutt, has been with our family since the very first episode. This means we’ve been familiar with the dog for almost thirty episodes now, and aside from his first appearance, we haven’t really had much of a focus on him. He went with Bart when the boy was running away from his family in “Bart vs. Thanksgiving,” and helped Bart with some mini-golf practice in “Dead Putting Society,” but now it’s time for the lovable canine to get an episode of his own, in “Bart’s Dog Gets an F,” an episode title that should be pretty familiar considering the title of Season 2’s opener; “Bart Gets an ‘F.’”

SSR #28: “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?”

Introduction:
Last time we had an episode centered around Marge’s well-known (and well-despised) twin sisters, so I think it’s fair we give Homer’s family a chance in the spotlight this time. However, let’s introduce a character that we (and Homer for that matter) never knew existed in the first place. It’s time we go deep into the lore of The Simpsons as we get introduced to Herbert Powell, Homer’s lost, half-brother, voiced by the one and only, Danny Devito.

Mario Kart 8 (Deluxe)

It’s time to drive-in to the most recent installment of Mario Kart; Mario Kart 8 on the Nintendo Wii U & Nintendo Switch. In addition to various mechanics throughout other games, Mario Kart 8 brings us anti-gravity fun along with some brand new characters (some of which who have not appeared in a Mario game), some sweet new tracks, a brand new engine class, and several other interesting features. I will be playing the Switch version for this playthrough (Mario Kart 8: Deluxe), but may have an extra video in relation to the Wii U version.

Mario Kart 8 has a lot of meaning to me. At this point, it is probably my most favorite Mario Kart game, and the Mario Kart game I would recommend most to people, just because of how easily accessible the game is and because the game is still very relevant with a very active online community. This game is also what introduced me to a lot of my friends in the Puddle Plains HD community, so it’s very special to me for that reason as well. I look forward to, in the future, having pretty regular sessions of this game via the game’s “Tournament” mode, so this project could be expecting quite a bit of content…at least until the next Mario Kart game comes out, whenever that might be.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

It’s time to set sail for the next Zelda game; this one on the Nintendo Gamecube! Although it was quite a graphical departure from what a lot of people were expecting, many Zelda fans opened their hearts to this colorful and cute installment of the Zelda series. A great evil is brewing across the Great Sea and a lone boy on the island of Outset is gearing up to take it on. Is this boy the legendary hero? We’ll have to wait and see.

Although I was technically hoping to get Zelda 1’s second quest taken care of before this game, I knew for sure that this summer was going to be the time to finally take on Wind Waker, so I decided to move it a little ahead in the schedule. There’s not much to say about this game aside from the fact that it’s amazing! The world is amazing, the sailing is amazing, the combat system is amazing…this game is quite the legendary adventure, I must say, and I look forward to showing you guys every moment!

Donkey Kong Land III

After the events of Donkey Kong Country 3, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong and Baron K. Roolenstein decided to have a little fun (for some reason) and look for the legendary Lost World. They left Dixie Kong behind though, forcing her and Kiddy Kong to go on their own adventure and show up their bigger, more seasoned adventurers. It’s time for another Game Boy installment of the Donkey Kong Land series!

I was looking forward to this playthrough just on the sole basis of being able to finish up the remaining Donkey Kong Land game, but it turns out, this project ended up being a lot of fun. Who would have known Donkey Kong Land III could be the pinnacle of amazing game design? I would have never guessed!

SSR #27: “Principal Charming”

Introduction:
I think it’s time we take the spotlight off the main family and focus on some secondary characters that we’ve had some experience with. This episode doesn’t just focus on one secondary character, but three characters that we’ve grown very familiar with since their debuts early in the 1st season (technically two if you count Patty & Selma as one collective character) . And what’s the best way to focus on them? Why, creating a one-episode long romance of course! It’s time for “Principal Charming!”

Sonic Adventure 2

Sonic Adventure 2

Game: Sonic Adventure 2

After the events of Sonic Adventure 1, Dr. Eggman is up to his classic, villainous plots again, but this time he has snuck into a military base and released a black hedgehog from captivity; Shadow. With Shadow on his side, Eggman has a super fast hedgehog of his own and now has a plan that will wreck the entire planet if Sonic doesn’t stop him. However…we now get a choice of which side we want to work on. Will we join Sonic to save the world? Or will we join the Eggman Empire and try to conquer it?

I wanted to get Sonic Adventure 2 started last year, but I just didn’t have enough time to get it going, so I waited until the beginning of 2019 instead. This game is perhaps one of my favorite games of all time, just because the sheer amount of time I’ve put into it and number of times I’ve gotten all 180 emblems. So now, it is my pleasure to bring to you guys as a Let’s Play.

Like Sonic Adventure 1, my ultimate plan for this game is to play through the game normally for Youtube, and then after I’ve finished it, I will do all the emblem grinding and acquiring on my Twitch channel, after which I will upload pieces of that footage to Youtube as well. This will be a long playthrough because of that, but I’m looking forward to it!

Lemmings

The early 90’s had a lot of simple games with very basic objectives. Perhaps the most common objective was “get to end without being destroyed.” This objective has become a way of gaming life in a lot of respects, but one question still remains that a lot of old-school PC gamers had the joy of answering…can you save a group of non-stop walking creatures before they plummet off a cliff? That’s where Lemmings comes in.

Lemmings is a game I had the pleasure of playing with my dad a lot when I was younger. We would spend hours in front of his computer trying to figure out how to get all of our Lemmings to safety before they went off the ledge, got burned alive by lava, and various other devious traps and tricks that got in our way. I had a feeling it was time to bring my love of this classic puzzle game to light this year, so here we are with another special weekend project for me.

I am also covering the SNES version of the game, which has a slightly different-looking interface than other versions, and some other modifications made specifically for the SNES version.

Mega Man 10

Mega Man 10

Danger! Danger! A worldwide epidemic is going around in the form of Roboenza; a sickness that is affecting robots. And now, with robot-kind out of commission, our way of life is in danger. Dr. Light and Dr. Wily have now teamed up to find a way to end this virus and it looks like Mega Man is ready once again to take the stage and find a way to fix this as well. However, we have eight more robot masters trying to take us down and another evil that will show it’s face later on…please don’t be Dr. Wily. Please!

I decided to attack Mega Man 10 a bit early this year, just on the off chance that we wouldn’t be side-winded (in a good way of course) with another new Mega Man game. However, this is the last Mega Man game (at least for now) that used this classic 8-bit style, so it’s definitely still the end of an era, somewhat.

SSR #26: “Homer vs. Lisa and the 8th Commandment”

Introduction:
We are halfway through the second season now, and one relationship we haven’t really touched on much is the relationship between father and daugher, in the form of Homer and Lisa. We’ve seen a couple of good moments from them in “Moaning Lisa,” and “One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish,” and we’ll be getting a great big dose later in the season when we get to “Lisa’s Substitute,” but I think this is an episode that shows why the two don’t really mesh together that well. There is definitely a love there, and I don’t think anyone can deny that, but this episode really shows the core difference between the two characters’ specific values. Lisa is about doing the right thing and being a strong, moral compass, while Homer is a little bit more about bending the rules a little for his own entertainment and enjoyment. They may clash at times, but I think a mature level of respect for each other still exists, and we’ll be taking a look at that interaction with today’s episode.
